I don't think I will have a 1080p TV that soon, so I don't really care.

I call bull***t. If it can't even do 1080P, it means it would have to be less than twice as powerfull than current systems. I can't imagine that, since it is already rumoured to have a R700 gpu(even a slower model would easily be twice as fast as 360's gpu) and all i needs besides that is twice the video memory for developers to port even the heaviest 360 game to full hd. I mean that's probably why they are going to use a three power pc(like the X360's) in the first place, to make the transition for developers as easy as possible, and win back their support.
8GB would seem to suggest that the console doesn't support game installs. Players might consider this a plus, but to developers, it isn't.
This omission was one of the main complaints voiced by 360 developers dating back to the platform's first year.
SD cards are not a substitute for HDD. Currently. Data transfer rates for standard Class 10 SD cards are about 10MB/s compared to the current average 2.5" HDD of 100-200 MB/s. Faster SD formats (UHS-1/UHS-2 compliant) are of limited availability (UHS-2 under development) and quite expensive. Current UHS-1 cards top out at about 45 MB/s at a cost of about $150 (low) for a 32GB card. This is not to say that Project Cafe will even support UHS-1/2 compliant SD format cards.
The output resolution is a bit less of an issue given the consideration that the console actually pipes additional video signals to each controller. Without the details on how this works, no one can really comment, but if a game rendered 720p for the main display plus a pair of 480p signals (also processed by the console) transmitted to a pair of controllers, that would take about the same amount of processing as a 1080p signal.
Rather than support 1080p for single player games only, they may have opted out of that display mode altogether.
I won't say that this is an acceptable explanation, just a theoretical one.
The assumption should be that the current default HD display/TV is 1080p though.

Consumers may be fine with low onboard storage suitable for minor patches, game saves and small DD games, but developers would definitely prefer having extra onboard storage to improve the performance of their games.
That's one of the most often quoted liabilities of the Xbox 360 by developers.
this sucks, the console has to be comparable to Ps4 instead of Ps3, this way Nintendo will miss the 3rd parties and core gamers once more...
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Even if this rumor is true, the lack of 1080p does not mean that games aren't easy to port. Resolution is one of the easiest things to change when porting, in fact PC games and many console games can run in several resolutions...

That sounds like most plausible rumor so far.

If it is going to be expandable then it will work right away just like it does on the 3DS
OT:
For me I do not mind space stuff I barely download demos on my 360 I don’t even use live for it lol :P and I do not have that many WiiWare or VC games.
Hope Nintendo makes a decision that suit most people though
And for someone who do not want a game because it is not in 1080p or i GET A LIFE!!

The 1080p issue isn't so much of nagging over details as it is an issue that there's no reason why a newly spec'ed $299 (at minimum; Project Cafe MSRP is mere speculation currently) console shouldn't be able to render a 1080p signal for most software in 2011.
1. Wait for confirmation before pretend raging over something you may or may not even have any intention or interest in buying.
2. Consider that Project Cafe is set up around multiple display rendering/video output. 720p display for the main display, yet still has to support video output for however many controllers a given game enables.
Personally, I'm curious as to where Nintendo is going with their next console.

4K is the next standard but that is a long ways away. Bandwidth, media formats, cables, software and so much more would have to be designed and built to accommodate the new resolution and it had taken years and billions of dollars just to enable the 1080p and even that's not adopted completely by the masses yet. Like I said before, if the GPU is based on the AMD R700 GPU, then 1080p is a given. |
They already designed more layed bluray discs. And HDMI 1.4 which supports 4K. The only limitation that's left is tv stations and TV costs. Once the TV's that people start breaking (TV's don't last 20 years anymore) 1080p will be adopted easier.
