Forums - Sales - Have any AAA 3rd party Wii games bombed?

I suppose the term AAA needs clarifying, as while it is a widely used term, it may not mean the same thing to everyone.  For the purposes of this thread, I take it to mean a game that:

1)  Had a sizeable development budget

2) Was heavily marketed

3) Met with at least a degree of critical approval (say a Metacritic rating of 70 or above)

4) Was of a genre that has had examples of success on the HD consoles (e.g. FPS and TPS games, but not light gun games or point-and-click puzzle games)

I ask the question because while there have of course been countless third party games that have bombed (of which many were of a quality that deserved to find a bigger audience), games that meet the above criteria haven't (to my recollection) been tested out many times, and those that have (again, to my recollection) have been successes.    (I suppose 'success' needs defining too - I suppose that sales of 1m or above seems to be the standard.  To this i would add the point that any game that didn't sell 1m but received a sequel nonetheless probably didn't have the development/advertising budget to qualify it as a AAA title.)

So, considering all I've said above, I'm struggling to think of AAA third party Wii games that haven't succeeded.  I suggest the following list as examples of AAA third party Wii games that have succeeded:

Monster Hunter Tri

GoldenEye

Epic Mickey

The Lego series

CoDs 3 and World at War... Black ops will get there

Guitar Hero series

Rock Band series

Feel free to suggest any relevant (see criteria above) successes/failures you think I've missed.

Well....

this is implying that more than 3 were made.

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Do you really want a list?

Epic Mickey is another one.

But the real issue is simple the lack of quality titles. 10 3rd party greats with a few niche greats (Red Steel, No More Heroes etc.) in 5 years? Not a great record if you ask me.

And RES is a port, take it off please. That wasn't big budget

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

RE4 wii edition was a port and therefore does not meet your criteria for AAA

1m != success.  profit = success which is not possible for us to determine.

for example: no more heros at 0.5M probably made a profit. Red Steel 2 probably didn't.

...and don't forget, reaching a million in sales means next to nothing if your game is in the bargin bin at $10 a pop.

I consider Little King's Story AAA, other than that though, nope :P

I'd agree it was brilliant, but I don't recall it getting advertised, and in terms of genre, it was pretty niche I think.

other then trii i cant think of an AAA wii 3rd party.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good
