sales down 70% from last year: that isn't an good sign for the industry and an sign that the market is tapping out or its time to release next gen and aim at more mass market appeal especially to the new games from facebook and ios/android fronts and tempting them into the console market space.

If you're getting those percentages from ethomaz's post, those are full year percentages. So, the PS3 is down 75% on the full year sales of 2010, so it's sold 25% of what the PS3 did for the whole of 2010 so far in 2011. That's not too bad (1/3rd of the way through 2011, but the holidays are bigger than the rest of the year).

Great that ps3 is still doing well. Will be interested in seeing if the psn issues affect ps3 sales. fingers crossed it doesnt.

PS3 first WW again as expected, but the most noticeable thing is PSP in Japan, outselling alone all Ninty consoles and portables combined. Crazy! Best launch of the week and Top 2 game sales don't help DS HW sales in Japan.

The week just ended won't be as good as it could in Japan for Sony, as it included the beginning of Golden Week with PSN still down. Golden Week continues this week, will Sony manage to get PSN up and running at least for some days before it ends?

YOY with the all important %'s:

Wii: DOWN 82k or DOWN 39%

PS3: UP 9k or UP 6%

360: UP 49k or UP 48%

DS: DOWN 114k or DOWN 44% (DS plus 3DS  up 9%)

PSP: DOWN 33k or DOWN 28%

360 is re-writing the rules.

The PSP isn't down, that's the PS2.

Still amazed by the continued YOY growth of the 360.  I know we are all expecting price cuts to come at E3 in June but I think with the continued YOY growth we won't see cuts take place until the fall for either Sony or MS.

Keep in mind that the slim came out in June (July for Europe).  If they don't cut the price at E3, then that YoY growth is likely to evaporate.  I'm not saying they need to cut the price in June (sales will still be good, just won't be able to use YoY growth as a bragging point), but sales would need to be incredibly strong in the summer for it to be up YoY without something to bolster the numbers.

Just want to say that's very good Portal 2 on PS3 numbers.  I suspect this is the best performance by a developer previously seen as 360 centric (on console ignoring PC) arriving on PS3.

Valve did pretty much everything they could, from Gabe on stage eating humble pie, to free PC/Mac versions to making sure the title was extremely polished on PS3, and the results are clear.

Epic and others who stumble in this approach should really take note.  The ratio of sales for Portal 2 vs Bulletstorm is very illuminating in terms of what works best.

Amazing to see both 360 and PS3 doing so well.  360 showing better % growth due to tracking against pre-slim model and Kinect (not that the boost isn't good) and PS3 doing well despite being past its slim spike and back to normal organic growth.

Now let's see how PSN-gate affects things - if it does.  Still in two minds whether we'll see a hit in sales or not at this point.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
