Bolded #1.

PSP was expensive 6 years ago. True, but average wages have increased over this time. Well in normal countrys anyway.

Bolded #2.

Touching a restrictive touch screen is not close to the same as doing so on a capacitive. I don't think anyone really knows the difference, do you? If it works it works.

Bolded #3.

Not according to Nintendo. Nintendo is saying this because they don't want to exclude devs from their console, not because its actually going to be true.

#1.) My wages now compared to what it was in 2005 still make a $250 handheld pretty expensive.

#2.) I know the difference and it is noticable. On the DS your finger feels resistance when sliding it up, down, left and right. On my Captivate smartphone there is none what so ever. Well, it is actually there but very very little, much less than then DS screen. Maybe you're right though, they won't notice. I just know that I would much rather prefer capacitive.

#3.) You could be right, but why put 3D if your making a motion title? Seasickness simulator?

You think that would sell? I bet some people actually would buy it.

"Sailing: The REAL seasickness simulator"

You're confusing the difference behind the material they're using to make the touchscreen with the different screen mechanics.

Having that "resistance" has nothing to do with being capacitive or not. You probably didn't have a smartphone back before they started using capacitive screens, but they used the same type of glass they use nowadays (at least, the HTC ones that I had did). The phones back then were also designed to use a stylus, but the screens themselves (unless they had a screen protector on them) felt the same as the phones today.

The reason the DS and 3DS screens feel the way they do is because Nintendo designed them to take a beating from 5-year-old kids pushing way too hard with a stylus. Your average touchscreen phone has never been built with that in mind.

Thanks for the info. Going to do some extra homework now on these things.

Who the heck have you seen saying "it'll rise with Zelda"? Clearly a significant majority on here thinks otherwise. It'll boost for a few weeks and then return to lower levels 'till new software strikes. I've seen people say "it'll rise with software" and that I consider inevitable.

I decided to make the thread because I have been reading threads about why the 3DS isn't selling and I have always believed that it has more to do with just games. In those threads many claim it is in fact due to game and they always seem to respond about how the next big game for the 3DS to release is OoT3D, not to mention it tends to get news here all the time.

With that I decided to ask you guys if you thought that since you believe games are the issue, will OoT3D help spur 3DS to higher stabilized numbers.

One game alone will not drive sales. It will cause a spike, but if there's nothing to capitalize on that spike, it will fall back to "normal" levels. If OOT is the first of a set of games that interest those people, then yes, it will drive sales higher. One of the best examples I can think of is on the DS in Japan. Nintendogs came out in April 2005. A month later, as things would start to wane, out comes Brain Age. This capitalized on the market of new buyers, and resulted in another spike. Now with more types of people tapped into, the system's sales were truly up. I don't think that OOT will be able to do this, though, and I think the lasting effect will be fairly small...

Fair enough, I suppose, and this thread at least clarified that few think that Zelda alone's gonna do much.

Then we are all in fact on the same page.

3DS sales will rise with Zelda no doubt, but only temporarily. Zelda is not the kind of game that has monster legs, so it can't keep 3DS sales steadily up over time. So I say it will boost sales for two weeks, then back to normal numbers, or perhaps very slightly up for a few more weeks.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

I don't think it has to do with OOT3D specifically, it's more like an influx of games starting to come out around the same time.

Here in Japan, there's been a drought concerning 3ds releases. But just the other day I checked Amazon JP and hey at the end of the month the One Piece 3DS game finally comes out along with DOA, then OOT3D next month along with Tales of the Abyss and Biohazard (Resident Evil): The Mercenaries.

There are quite a lot of games coming out for it very soon, which should help to pick up sales (in Japan) as consumers will have a wider variety of software titles to choose from. Being mainly stuck with the launch titles has really hurt sales.

^what this guy above me said.

Like stated before, it's just that OOT 3D will be the 1st to release out of the 'real' quality games we know about. Imo it'll be the starting point of increasing sales for 3DS. Of course the game by itself won't have a huge impact, but I'm pretty sure it'll boost sales a bit. Then other stuff like Starfox, Animal Crossing, Super Mario and Mario Kart will come out, and sales will keep rising. It's just that OOT will be the first of the bunch.

I have a slightly more interesting question, if Nintendogs isn't selling the 3DS what will?
