lol, no it isn't. If any system gets a DQVII port it'd be DS. If either Wii or 3DS get DQVII, it'll be a full remake.

But that wasn't your point. Your point was about announcements. Adding bonus stuff to an already released game is just too obvious of a milking cow to ignore. On the other hand making a totally new game for a dead platform if far more questionable, and as evidence has shown, Wii is no longer a viable platform for Japanese developers outside Nintendo (even for them it's getting tough). If any Wii DQ game has been in development outside of DQX then the most probable outcome is that it has been moved to 3DS, since the HW specs are similar and they would need to build a DQ base on that console. 3DS advantages far outweight the Wii advantages of releasing a DQ game on those platforms.

Oh god, I hope not. Everything Genius Sonority has done is a travesty compared to the original games. The 3D Pokemon games they worked on are some of the worst Pokemon games in existance. And while Drago nQuest Swords was marginally fun, I attribute that more to the fact that Yuji Horii has a firm grip on design and production of every Dragon Quest game. And even then, the game is probably one of the weaker in the series. If anyone should remake DQVII, it should be ArtePiazza, since they were the original developers of the game and did the remakes for DQIV-VI on DS. But again, I don't think DQVII will get a remake. Its probably the biggest DQ ever made. Even compared to DQVIII and IX. |
Er, Arte Piazza only did support work on DQVII originally. It's core developer was Heartbeat, who dissolved and most of the staff went on to form Genius Sonority. That's why them doing a DQVII makes so much sense, they literally are the original team.
I won't disagree GS's previous efforts have been spotty, but I think Horii would have pretty tight control on a DQVII remake. Arte Piazza could still be involved too, and 8ing's Wii engine (powering both DQ Swords and Battle Road Victory) is fantastic.

Wii's sold more software in Japan in 2011 so far than any system but PSP (more than PS3, more than DS, more than 3DS). And that's despite Wii having fewer new releases than anyone else, by FAR. There's still a healthy software market there, Nintendo's literally just the only one even trying to capitalize on it (which has pretty much been the case for Wii's entire lifecycle, c'est la vie).
And no, it really depends on the game whether or a 3DS transition makes sense. Something multiplayer/family focused (like Itadaki Street) makes imminently more sense to just keep going on Wii since that's literally the platform's strengths. A DQVII would sell similarly across either system (just north of a million) so that would also make more sense to just keep going on Wii with. Had Slime Morimori 3 been a Wii game though (which is possible), then yeah that would've made more sense to move over to 3DS.

lol. My mistake, though it's still less likely than a Wii DQVII remake.

What? By that logic then they should port DQ X to the 3DS and cancel it on the Wii then since the Wii is apparently not "viable" anymore. |
No because DQX has been in development since 2008, while the otehr ones might have recently started development. I doubt they have been idevelopment since 2009 or before because it wouldn't take much time to make a spin-off compared to a mainline game.

Forget a DQ8 port; where are the FF6 and FF7 remakes going, NGP or 3DS?

That's nothing, that's only 1 game coming from a third party which isn't even Japan oriented and it's not getting released in Japan for the Wii so far (Virtu Tennis 4 has only been confirmed for 360 and PS3 in Japan). |
This is all beside the point, since DQ is pretty much unlike any other 3rd party console game. It has more in common brand wise, influence wise, and sales wise with 1st party Nintendo fare like Wii Sports or NSMB than it does anything on consoles from Sega, Bandai Namco, Tecmo Koei, Konami, Capcom, Atlus, Level 5, etc, etc. That's why boiling this down to the same tired 3rd party arguments is always such a meaningless approach, DQ really plays by it's own rules, it literally defies those arguments.
And what's not speculation is Horii confirming multiple DQ games are in development for Wii. You're free to speuclate otherwise but at the end of the day, that's nothing but speculation on your part. ;)
