Forums - Nintendo - If Nintendo really is going after the core crowd with Cafe R they too early

IF the rumors are true that Nintendo is focusing on getting the core crowd back, then are they releasing there new system too early? I was just thinking that if Sony and Microsoft continue with this generation for at lease two more years that the audience that Nintendo wants to recapture may not be ready to buy a new system when their PS3 or 360 plays the same 3rd party games that Cafe will (possibly if some rumors are true).

In short, my thinking is that "core" gamers will say "Why upgrade now when I don't really have too?" They will most likely wait for the new SOny and Microsoft machines which will be more powerful than Cafe.

I personally will get the new Nintendo system on day 1, but that's because I'm a huge Nintendo fan (not a fanboy).

What are everyone else's thoughts? Do you think Cafe will get here too early or does Nintendo know what it's doing?

EDIT: This is NOT, repeat not a DOOM thread. Just something to think about.

If they want to target the "core" gamers they need to release alot of Shooter games for the Wii 2 that's what Wii lacked other then HD.

They can get a big jump start against Sony or MS since i've herd they're releasing a new console in 2014 or it can end up like the Dreamcast.

I do think it's a bit too early

On the other hand, how much of an improvement can Sony/MS make with graphics? I saw the UE3 Samaritan demo, It looked pretty advanced, just not as noticeable of a leap as PS2-->PS3, and certainly not worth the hardware increase/cost (the demo ran on THREE GTX 580 graphics cards)

No, They are not early. I personally thing the graphics on ps3/360 are horrible! I know i will get lots of negative responses for saying so, but its true. I play on a 55" 1080p Samsung and sub720p graphics are unacceptable to me. A few games such as Uncharted look descent but they are still way behind my OLD ASUS laptop when playing Crysis. Any TV over 40" needs more power than ps3/360 have to offer, and for Hi-resolution 3d we need a lot more power.

This point has already been discussed to death in the other 10 threads dedicated to Cafe or Nintendo's new Doom simulation

Why another Thread?

couldn't find the other threads (or I was just too lazy to look hard)

I don't think Nintendo is doomed, far from it, I just think that it could be a little early for what their strategy is shaping up to be

Maybe. It's a risk, especially if the third party support is all multiplatform stuff shared with the PS360. I can't really see people abandoning the HD Twins just to play the exact same games.

If they are going after core gamers, then I suggest they start making...

1. PS3's/PS4's

2. 360's/Nextboxes

Because that's what the majority of today's *cough* "core" gamers see as consoles/brands worth their attention.

Early? IMO, yes. In the beginning the Nextendo will be getting a good portion of ports from this gen's HD consoles, and after MS and Sony release the successors to their consoles, it'll get the Wii treatment because as far as power goes, it'll probably be quite pale compared to these two, failing to reach PS2-like audiences that made it the dominator of its generation despite being very much inferior to GC/Xbox power-wise. It simply lacks the appeal/hype. Price and library  will also be factors, and while sure, you can get COD X on N6, why do so if you can get it on the cheaper PS3/360, with more games available on both to boot? Because that's how it'll be in 2012.

They are lining themselves up for failing to achieve this objective... as long as PS3 and 360 exist and keep gaining strength with new ways to play, new games, and likely lower prices, they won't make a serious dent.

i'll tell you this ... if 90% of its library ends up being multiplat with the ps360 as the rumors of its power suggests there is 0% chance i'll buy it.  i'm sure that will be the case with a vast majority of the 100M ps360 owners out there.

you know what you say is sensible, but you're assuming WAY too many things in you're statement.

what makes you think PS4 and Nextbox will be more powerful than Cafe? Is it because thats how it was this gen. And how do you know Cafe is releasing in 2012 for sure? Just because Iwata said mid 2012 at earliest? That doesn't mean anything. Look basically what I'm saying is yes Nintendo is going HD and is obviously trying to recapture hardcore audience, but other than that, we don't know anything Nintendo will surprise us.
