Forums - Sales - Sony shares slide as worries mount over data leak

By the way, if I am reading the chart correctly, if tomorrow it dips further it will be really bad news, as it will be the lowest in two years.

Honestly I think some investors might be jumping the gun, but you can never tell what the effects of something like this truly is.

Well it's not so much that investors are jumping the gun.

I for one invest in stocks and hold my shares of said company for a long time until I sell them (collecting dividends while I wait since I only invest in dividend paying stocks). People like this need not worry because this is only a blip in what's already been a bad 3 yrs for everyone.
Day traders are the ones who really make the stock price move around as they're the ones that make tons of trades every single day and the point is that they see better investments elsewhere, as obviously no one sees anything positive coming from sony in the next few months. Hence, stock price goes poo poo.

Don't get me wrong, this is still a pretty big deal for sony and investors alike, but there will always be something that comes along that will knock the price up or down. And life goes on.

Obvliously everyone is jumping the gun and spouting doom and gloom when in reality we just have more spam and phising scams annoying us and a better psn

Nsanity, is it me, or do I always see you make nothing but positive threads about Microsoft, and nothing but negative threads about Sony? You definitely seem to be a fan of Microsoft, which is absolutely fine; but then I don't see the need to always make your Sony threads. I'm not trying to pick a fight, but it just seems to me like you have an agenda. Correct me if I'm wrong or am missing something.

To be honest the stock has been dropping for some time, this sort of news is never going to help your stock and a sharp decline is to be expected. What is important is how Sony handle the crisis going forward, they cannot do any worse than they have up til now.

They need to be able to reverse this decline but they cannot do this whilst the news continues to trickle out and the system continues to be down. So I am expecting more loses especially as other comparable businesses are not declining at this rate.

The other thing he always does is make threads and then never make comments. So you won't be getting a reply for this...

$1.5 billion would be pretty nasty for the games division (even if to Sony as a whole that's relatively miniscule). At the very least this is a pretty big blow to their image

As a reference the RROD problem cost MS 1 billion, so losing 1.5 billion in a couple of weeks is going to hit hard.

MS lost way over $1b

their reserve for RROD problem was itself $1.5b and even then they allocated some more to it after the rrod problem continued

From 2007 MS Annual Report:

EDD operating loss increased primarily due to the $1.06 billion Xbox 360 charge.

If you have some other information provide a source.  That charge was a setaside to cover repairs and charges for the past and additional warranty charges going forward. As far as I know MS has never reported that they hit the top of the set aside.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Haha nice. Well thanks for the heads up at least.

It appears share prices have started declining further. If it becomes 2,000 JPY per share, that means it lost 500 JPY per share in the past week, which is huge decline in share prices.

Someone want to do how much that means towards the marketcap. Basically calculate what is currently lost? Lets say it was at 2400 when the news really hit, and it is currently at 2,260JPY.

I too have noticed this. Nothing wrong with making a lot of xbox related threads but when once in awhile he actually makes the sony thread they're ALL doom and gloom.

The financial impact will be much lower than estimated as posted above. Good times to buy the stock (value-wise)
