First post!!! Ive been reading vgchartz forums for awhile and i must say you are some of the biggest nintendo fanboys ever. Its actually kind of pathetic to be a fanboy of a certain company in the first place. I actually own bioshock and smg and im positive the guys who say smg wins bioshock is overrated, never played bioshock so why are you posting your biased opinion? Now as someone who owns and has played both ill have to say SMG is the best game to come out this year, but bioshock def made the fps fun again. SMG was just sooo much fun and mario is such an important game when it comes out, and this one def delivered and showed alot of promise for the wii games to come.

who are you talking about? (i'm just wondering. it seemed directed toward lots of us. i'm not a fanboy though as I have all 3... make that 4 game consoles. including the ps2!) this is just in case you are directing this towards me!

it was directed towards people who havent even played both games and just call it a generic shooter. It was not one bit generic with its great story based on a great book, amazing graphics and art direction, great voice acting, plasmids by itself make it not generic. im just sick of these immature fanboys and useless biased opinions

You know, you should think for a moment before posting. Even i do it from time to time. I haven't played Bioshock, but i still can say, that SMG is a better game. And why can i say that? It's because Bioshock doesn't fit to my favourite genres. Unlike SMG. And there's another thing, after MP3 set new high for FP games controls, i don't think i enjoy playing FP games with clumsy dual analog or handicapped KB+mouse like i do on Wii Remote+ Nunchuck. Now, i'm not saying Bioshock would be a bad game by any means, it actually is my number two most interesting shooter at the moment, right after Umbrella Chronicles. And besides, i have heard almost nothing but good about Bioshock, biggest complain being that it doesn't live up to System Shock 2. And welcome to VGChartz on my behalf. I hope we will be seeing you around in the future too.

But how can you decide that without playing bioshock? I could understand if this was just a game of the year topic, but its bioshock v smg. On a side note i think mp3 is actually overrated. Hardcore nintendo fanboys (and i dont mean you) are huge hypocrits. They constantly bash fps games, but when a franchise game like metroid comes out, its ofcourse the best fps ever and the controls will make you never want to use a analog stick ever again. I played mp3 and enjoyed it somewhat, but the story was pretty dull. Also the controls are not the greatest ever because to me nothing beats a mouse and keyboard. Now you say i should think before i post but i see nothing wrong with what i said. I would respect your opinion more if you had played bioshock. I still think you would still say smg wins but i agree that its better. But atleast your not one of those one line "omg bioshock iz overrrrrated, SMG for teh winz" kind of poster.

I wouldnt put Bioshock up there as "above the rest" (Yes, ratings may do, but screw ratings im using my own opinion). Its very good, but not deserving of the top place this year. Alot of games beat it; COD4 and R&C both do personally, Uncharted as well. Bioshock is pretty standard for me, and therefore overrated.

Still, SMG should take away more awards than Bioshock based on quality.

If I remember correctly, the only people who called Corruption a FPS were Sony or Microsoft fanboys. Hardcore Nintendo fanboys and informed gamers are aware that Metroid Prime games never have been FPS games.

So that part of your post makes no sense. Think before you post.

First off i am a well informed gamer and lets be honest although the prime series has adventure game qualities to it, its a fps. You play as samus mostly in a first person view, and you shoot things which is what you do in fps games. Now i get most ninty fanboys are talking about the generic military shooters on the 360, but at the end of the day even if mp3 is futuristic its just another mediocre shooter to me. I miss the 2d metroid games to be honest. But the ninty fanboys need to get off there high horse if they think every first party game put out is the best in its genre. I know i sound very anti-nintendo right now but believe me im not. I own all three consoles and enjoy all 3 the same. I dont care what system a game comes out on. I just like to play good games. I dont care what genre a game is or what company put it out because im open minded. I think to be a fanboy of a certain system shows a lack of intelligence and creativity because your not willing to try other things out. You support one specific company in which you have nothing to do with. You dont work there, and you dont make money on how many systems THEY sell. Do fanboys think they are cool because they support one system?

@zombier: This time you thought before posting, you said clearly your point of view without trying to make it sound like some universal fact and (nearly) without trying to bash anyone.

You haven't played the previous Primes (and other Metroids in general)? Did you get the lores? Scanned the flora and fauna? There was actually a lot more story than just the main story. And actually, MP3 isn't shooter, it's adventure game. So people don't like Metroids because of the shooting, but because of the adventure. Although there were a lot of shooter elements added to the game (linearity and places where the whole idea was to kill everyone in sight). MP3 also missed one thing, which every other Metroid has had, you didn't really feel being alone on your quest (even though you practically were).
About the controls, i have never liked the dual analog scheme or KB+ mouse. If you like them more (or didn't like MP3), it's fine with me, not going to argue.

I actually wasn't going to post to this topic for the reason i haven't played Bioshock (i didn't want to compare them since i had nothing concrete to compare SMG with), but somehow your post made me want to post.
I didn't (on purpose) mention earlier, that you brought up only the other side of story, you didn't mention people who have played only Bioshock and claim it to be better.
You got a point about fanboys, but it's the same thing with every fanboy, no matter the console, every game on the console of choice is better than anything on competitor.

And one thing that makes me sceptical about high rated FPS:s, is that just look how many, mediocre at best, have had high ratings from reviews, so it's no wonder if people see "shooter X" overrated without playing, and to add to that the events lately with Assassins Creed and what was the other game, you really need to think twice about to believe or not to the ratings, especially with high budget titles. So i'm not saying Bioshock overrated, nor underrated, atleast before playing it.

And for the record, you are just as entitled to your opinion, as i am and i do respect your opinions just like everyone elses too.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

BioShock and Super Mario Galaxy are the two best games I played this year, probably even of the last 2 years. So I'm, good with either winning the GOTY.

Neither of these 2 games are overrated. You might not like either one, but fact remains they are both very well designed and produced games. And to everyone who says Bioshock sucks because of dual analogue control, ever considered there is a far superior PC version?

The GOTY 2007 should have been between SMG, COD4, and Mass Effect. For consoles at least. Adding PC and handheld, can throw Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Crysis, and World in Conflict in the mix. But Bioshock was not as good as those 3 console games, and I really don't understand why its even in the mix. Saddens me that it even somewhat is. Shows that reviewers throughts on quality is diminishing.

I own them both and haven't even thought about playing BioShock in months and I'm not close to finishing the game. As a pc gamer, I feel it's greatly over rated. 2k already did this style of game play with SystemShock years ago. It looks great but just didn't hook me. SMG on the other hand, is my game of the year (with portal in second). I think it's the best game since HL2. HL2 and SMG have a lot in common, if you think about it. They're always fresh and new, something only a few games seem to figure out, rather than rehashsing the same thing over and over again. The gameplay varies as you go along, so it never becomes old. Somebody should seriously get Gabe Newell and Miyamoto together to have a gaming discussion, it'd be epic.

I didnt mean to sound harsh with the respect your opinion thing so i apologize for that. I know i should have talked about people who only played bioshock and not smg to, but we all know there are more ninty fanboys on this forum. But yea to me you have to have played good amount of both games to discuss this debate properly. Yes i know alot of people like to think of the prime series as an adventure game but its a fps too. Nintendo did a so-so job on both aspects of the game. There are better shooters(and dont argue the controller aspect because its still a mediocre shooter), and the adventure aspect has been done alot better inside nintendo itself with the zelda series. I know fps get high scores on most review sites. Another thing with the hardcore nintendo bunch is they cry that sites like ign dont know what they are talking about when a wii game gets a bad review. But when a wii game gets a good review they are like omg its better than *insert 360/ps3 game here* check game rankings! Such a double standard with fanboys

They're both good games, right?

My favourite game of all tme is lesiure suit larry. I like halo and i think the game of the year should be Bob the Builder: Festival of Fun for ps2. It very nice and i have a lot of fun with it. Extreme gameplay, nice graphics and i can play with my friends in the party of my birthday. It was crazy!! merry xmas everybody are my friends!!
