Heres Destructoids take on the matter....

Meanwhile, the more idiotic Sony fans on Twitter and Facebook are defending the company, acting like this situation has been -- in any way -- acceptable.

lol... i can't believe people really think it's acceptable..

People need to sit back and ask themselves, "If it was another company , how would you feel"

To me, no matter What Company takes my info and doesn't protect it, (ESPECIALLY after you have been targeted by a group) I lose trust.

Wonder what the stocks will look like in a couple hours....

This is exactly how I feel. This is a big fuck up on Sony's part!

There's no proof they were trying to take information, just that they had acess to it, and there's the bait and switch tactic, pretend to go for something to make your actual goal easier, this method has been more effective at briging psn down then anons brute force tatics, and again theres no proof they were looking for the info just that they had access to it and again theres no proof they took the info or even looked at it just that they had the ability to acess to it you are operating under an assumption of an assumption

So you're basically saying it's implausible to assume they did anything with the information they did take but it's perfectly reasonable to assume they were pulling off some overly complicated bait and switch tactic?

Yeah, we're done here.  I'm not even convinced you believe yourself.

No waht I'm saying iis you shouldn't assume they took the information when there no proof they did or even could on a massive scale, the only thing we know is they had the ability to acess it, we don't even know that they did yet you are talking like it's a fact that they took everyones info

What the crap are you talking about?  Sony themselves have confirmed they took the personal data.  I'm really not sure what proof you're looking for.

No they confirmed they had the ability to acess it, this is why you should read the actual statements and not just the titles of journalists

Just recieved an email from them, they are really late in sending these things out aren't they.

Not thousands, maybe 4-12 instead of 0, and it's not even like everyone uses their real name/address on psn either, and so far the only confirmed thing is the hackers having the ability to acess the info, I suppose theirs an outside chance that they are looking for buyers but again with everyone putting in random address and names it's not exactly top dollar stuff and thats assuming they were after it and assuming they had the means to copy 77 million accounts simialtaniously which I don't think either is the case

It's also reported the theft may have included purchase records. If so, that would make it very easy discriminate targets. Anyone who purchased something almost certainly entered their real identity.

reported by who? Of all the articles I read 90% of what the journalists are saying is pure speculation at best, everyone is blowing it out of preportion so far all we know is the hackers had the ability to look at the info we don't even know that they did and I sincerely doubt they had the ability to copy everyoens info at once

Reported by Sony themselves.

It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

So I should assume a roaming black hole is going to destroy the world before I finish typing this

Just got an email from them this morning....a whole week after PSN went down. What a shitty company Sony is.

Some twitter quotes are hilarious...

"At Sony we believe in an open platform. A very open platform."

"I hope the PSN hackers do something really cool with all our money, like start a game company that provides a reliable and secure service!"

"Bad news gets worse. If you ever participated in Folding@Home, it turns out that PSN was storing your entire DNA sequence.

"(PS3) Mortal Kombat exclusive: Kratos. Xbox 360 Mortal Kombat exclusive: being online."

"I better go change my birthday."
