- Nintendo may consider letting the Metroid series cool for awhile after support for the franchise seems to be waning

I will always support you Samus... sob sob.  I think a 4-5 year rotation much like Zelda would be ideal.  It would give the team time to do things right and come up with new ideas, stories, and characters.  After an entire generation hiatus we got the brilliant Metroid Prime.  I'm willing to sacrifice time in between titles to get better games.

Edit:
I've loved every game so far though, (even Other M) so maybe waiting wouldn't give us any better product than we are already getting.  Contradiction-much I know!

Incorrect Nintendo. If you released an actual Metroid game (as in, gameplay of Metroid I, Metroid II, Super Metroid or Metroid Prime 1) it would sell just fine. The waning is because people did not like Other M.

This has just reminded me how much I want a new true BK game.  The depth perception could really aid the platforming as well

That's kind of what happens when you destroy a great game series, talking about Metroid. Though at this rate, Zelda will be next in line for this treatment. Happy that retro is working on something else than those rumours suggested.

Right. Metroid Other M came from them likely having a lack of ideas for the direction of the franchise though. A cooling off period may give a team the proper inspiration to think up something as original as the transition from Super Metroid to Metroid Prime. The original inspiration for Prime very likely came from a lack of pressure to come out with a successor.

I wouldn't mind another Metroid Pinball for the 3DS though. Maybe mix it up with different Nintendo franchises like Pokemon Pinball and Mario Pinball too rolled into one big game.

I think Other M was a very good direction for the future of the Franchise from a pure gameplay perspective. They need to take a minimalist approach to storytelling and choose more interesting environments for Samus to explore (everything Other M had Fusion had done before), but as far as the controls and how Samus moved and fought, it worked out perfectly, sans fine-tuning a few bits (the broken dodge -> instant full charge mechanic, and getting rid of concentration in lieu of returning pickups, better controller layout)

Other M was a good idea with mediocre execution, but conceptually was an excellent step to bringing the feel of 2D Metroids into a 3D space

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I'm tired of Metroid fans down-talking on Zelda just to feel better about what happened to their franchise. Yes, I see it a lot lately. Malstrom was right about them. =/

Really? What's wrong with getting Ubisoft's upcoming games? Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Beyond Good and Evil 2, Assassin's Creed 3, Driver: San Francisco, Child of Eden, and Far Cry 3, there's practically every type of game that Wii fans have been clamoring for. The new console might even get the new Anno 2070 game since previous titles were ported to the Wii and DS.
