Sony's hosting a press event in Tokyo today where it just made the first announcement: a pair of Android 3.0 tablets -- yes, the very two Honeycomb slabs we told you about exclusively, back in February. The first is the 9.4-inch S1 media tablet (aka, Qriocity focused) with a curved top much like a folded magazine and both front- and rear-facing cameras. The S1 features a Tegra 2 SoC and customized "Quick and Smooth" touch panel UI with "Swift" web browser. It can also be used as a remote control for Sony gear thanks to integrated infrared. 

The second tablet is the dual-screen S2 clamshell with its pair of 5.5-inch 1,024 x 480 pixel displays, Tegra 2 SoC, and camera. While it sounds bulky, Kunimasa Suzuki just pulled the hinged tablet from his jacket pocket on stage. Sony takes advantage of the two screens with a custom book-style UI layout for its e-reader app, email (keyboard on one display with your messages on the other), and others. Both the S1 and S2 are PlayStation Certified and are WiFi and 3G/4G "compatible" according to Sony. Expect to see them ship globally in the fall.  LINK

Honestly, going to wait one more year to see what the big players really have, and I will get one of the tablets. Maybe sonys.

i have an ipad and i have to say im not satisfied, apps are expensive and many times the touch screen doesnt respond. i was playingthis game where you have to flick a ball and it was a time trial, i didnt flick it once, it didnt work and i lost :(

i read an article on the S1 and that is far better than the Ipad(ipad 2 wasn't relased yet) because of its balance when holding it. I like the flap on the back which protects the screen. edit: it appears that it doesn't have an flap, which is an dissapointed if so, that would be an solid god addition to tablets is an soild built in flap to protect the screen. 

Its sounds interesting but i have an smart phone but i dont have an laptop ( bought an power desktop instead), and as an university student, i dont know whether or not to buy an Apple Laptop or an tablet. Ones thing for sure is that the tablets have very little functatity. I wont be able to do any programming, writting notes i have heard is near impossible. So no tablet has really won me over. I dont know why apple dont have there OSX on the ipad? maybe the ipad 3. But i hate buying apple products because they release updates so fequent and when choosing you may comparise over an another brand for apple then discover 2 weeks after buying that the new ones release removing said comparmise. 

So would an SONY tablet be better than an apple latop?, ones thing for sure it looks far better than the crappy samsung glaxey paddy cake. But i doubt it, unless apple brings out an ipad with OSX or MS brings an juciy Windows based pad thats better than those weak netbooks. Maybe i will get an tablet. But currently as an student the Ipad is useless even in the school of computer science i am in. 

S2 looks like a big DS, no joke !

But I like it, cuz it got crash bandicoot on it :P
