Forums - Sony - Sony Isnt Sure Your Credit Card Data Is Safe

Solid-Stark said:

Dear Nsanity, You do such a good job posting positive xbox news, may you please do the same with ps3?

OT: Monitor account activity and keep up with the updates Sony releases is all we can do. *does reggie shrug*

Because it's an anti-PS3 troll.  Just read his posts and you'll see.

OT: I'll need to call my credit card company to be on the safe side.  I would advise everyone to do the same.

That would totally suck, if credit card information was taken. I guess I learned I shouldn't save credit card information on sony devices. (I still trust microsoft, and maybe nintendo....maybe.)

You can't really be that dumb.  Your credit card info isn't anymore safe with MS or Nintendo.

Why not? I don't see Nintendo or Microsoft server down due to someone from the outside. They could be, but they aren't.  So the sentence you wrote actually means nothing. With that said, i don't have my information on Nintendo devices, at least not yet.

However, I do know if anything happens, I can easily report it, and recover my cash.

Edit: By the way, my statement is based on the rumour, that might or might not be true, but sony isn't doing a good job of really answering anything.

With millions of PSN accounts the odds of someone with a PSN account having their card details ripped off coincidently by another means if pretty high.  This example just means his card was comprimised, not that PSN was the source.

At this point its all speculation with no proof.

I suspect if card details were a risk Sony would be notifiying PSN accounts via email that have credit card details registered asking them to check for fraudulent activity.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

nothing positive going on with sony right now, sonys gonna get ass punked by me if my credit card details are stolen and to rub some dirt in the wound this would never happen on xbox, xbox live is money well spent and its never been down for more than a day,lol at anyone who says 11 days cause theyre fools

Lol, well someone's been blinded.  I guess all those stories about Live going down Holiday' 07 and having trouble staying up for about 2 weeks was all fabricated.  Man, how did 360 fans let these sites get away with that?

It's called selective memory. Those that don't possess it are apparently fools.

One person in 70m gets their card fraudently charged is now considered proof that the details where stolen fron PSN.

If credit cards details being stolen is true this changes the whole ball game for the hackers. Instead of just taking down PSN they have added a mega offence to their portfolio. I seriously doubt a cracker that just wanted to give Sony a serious headache would risk commiting a much more serious crime and risking many years in prison.

instead of being done for just hacking Sony (which would have probably won them some respect in certain techy geeky circles) they would now have the world's law enforcement agencies after them for what would be considered a far more serious offence. Stealing and using or supplying people's credit card details.

dont you people have virtual CC service in your countries? i have here in Portugal and is all i use... not that i am paranoid or something but the ease of use and security is enormous...

i am not worried about this since i use the above mentioned virtual cards but if i did use a real one, it would be the same for me. my info is as secure in random server over th internet as is when you pay a DVD on your local store... almost everybody can see your number, name, security number behind, and address is easy too, by phone book or by chasing you down from store to home... EASY...

Like I said earlier last year my wife had her card information stolen on itunes. ( the hack was tricky, the thief set up a fake partner shop and could only use the stolen card to purchase itunes stuff..). So nothing is safe...

She didn't even notice it at first. The credit card company did and did everything that was needed to ensure things went well for us...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

Man that link must be getting hit hard. If my memory serves it was not down rather it was busy and the capacity issue lasted on and off for 11 days. It certainly was never down in the same way the PSN network was down. I feel your pain but this is kinda of misleading.

Still horrible that some people couldn't get on at all during that time and it was more then a capsity issue, and live you are paying for and it was for alot longer atleast Sony is fixing the problem and closing all the holes in their system
