Well the main reason is that PS3 should decline pretty fast relative to its peak. Wii has obviously slowed quite a bit but the peak was so much higher that sales remain strong overall.

around 80-85 million lifetime for PS3. 100 mill is far too optimistic, if not downright unrealistic. I mean come on, even the Wii will struggle to reach 100 million.

People who think that essentially believe that somehow Sony will manage to sell as many PS3's (50 mililon) in its second five years of life as it did in its first 5 years, which is a pretty ridiculous notion, especially if Sony releases another console in the next 2-3 years, which they almost certainly will.

The PS2 dropped to 200$ 2 years after it's release. The PS3 is still 300$ 4.5 years since it's release. Comparing both can't be very conclusive considering that.

Oh really? So PS2 was 200 euros in 2002? I don't think so, I remember that the PS2's launch price was 20,000 BEF(belgian francs) around 500 euros.

double post, nevermind

"The PS3 has sold 49,519,608 since its launch in November 2006.

Since the PS2 was launched on the 27/02/2000 week (that's 02/27/2000 for you Americans) until the week ending 31/07/2004, that is in the same amount of weeks, the PS2 sold 69,924,823.

Meaning the PS3 has sold 70.82% what the PS2 sold in the same time frame."

The PS3 is way behind the PS3 is sales.

Please do the same calculation with the Wii compared to the PS2. I'd like to see if the Wii is ahead of the PS2's base. I think it is.
