And if I ask of him why he agrees with those morals, he will say because it is what Christ taught, and you get the circle.

I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I am quite certain that is not the answer he would give given his previous responses. Atleast, it is not the response that most Chrisian theolgians would give. Christ's teachings are not right because the Bible says so. His teachings are right because they agree with the objective moral law. The main point I was attempting to make in my previous post is that this objective moral law is then taken as a foundational truth that needs no further justification.

There would be more steps, yes, I guess I should have elaborated more. However if you press anyone in their beliefs, they will end up using circular logic where they say the believe in religion A because of the faith and stuff, and down the line you will reach a point where they will use religion A as an explnation. As I have mentioned already above, any and every argument one can make for the bullshit of any tale, I can make for any religion, because they have fundamentally the same amount of backing and information.

I find that on the internet forums, people are very respectful to different genders, races, and sexual orientations, but there is something about the belief in God that pushes some (certainly not all) people to become extremely bigoted, more generalizing, and overall more hateful and hostile to this specific group of people.

Take this random quote:

"I've noticed Christians are hypocrites."

What if we replaced "Christains" with another group:

"I've noticed African Americans are hypocrites."

It seems more hateful and politically incorrect, right? So why is it that people with a belief in God are seemingly excluded for the political corectness that help protects so many other groups?

I know certain groups of people were oppressed over time, but there should be a call for equality, not revenge......

Maybe I'm just too sensitive, but it just comes off that way to me......

Starting today I'm going to start beliving in African American belief diety thing-a-mabob.. damn does that even make sense?

Last I checked a good chunk of African Americans were theists though so then can a theist still be a theist but also be atheist?

I know being a pinker pigment doesn't make you a theist or atheist though... why am I even bothering.

Sad OP is sad. World views are to be criticized and ridiculed when asserted to be correct without any evidence to the claim. In the theist case the very virtue of Christianity is the absence of evidence aka faith.

I find it amusing that many people that "don't believe" in God get extremely angry when he's brought up.

This is a very simplistic assumption you have there. Maybe you should think a little harder on why that is.

Sometimes things are that simple and it isn't an assumption.  I've seen people on several occasions get furious when God is brought up.  If people truly think that he is just a fictional character like King Arthur, then why do they get so angry?  If I said that I believe in Spiderman, many people would just assume that I am nuts or a child.  There have been several times in my life I have said that I believe in God and have been called an idiot and told things like F--- God, he doesn't exist and hasn't helped you in any way.  Why is this?

I'll tell you why.  I think that many people truly HOPE that there isn't a God so that they don't have to answer for all of the things that they've done in life.  People get angry because they don't want to follow his rules.

I don't force my beliefs on other people so believe what you want, but don't get angry at people for defending what they believe.

Again, a pretty simplistic assumption, that lots of Christians like to make in order to feel better about themselves. In reality people get upset because religion has a big impact on their lives whether they want to or not (due to the large number of Chrsitians , and this fact upsets most atheists, which leads them to view the made-up concept of "God" as a symbol of their oppression in society.

I for one wouldn't care to follow your God even if he were real, because from what I know about him, he's fits the profile of the oprressive dictator..

And what rules do you think atheists don't follow exactly? Other than actually believing in that deity, and some things regarding sex (which most Christians don't folow either), I wouldn't say they're any more likely to commit any terrible acts than a Christian would (there are actually more Christians in prison than atheists).

What is this objective moral law you speak of?

"As hypocrisy is said to be the highest compliment to virtue, the art of lying is the strongest acknowledgment of the force of truth" - William Hazlitt

The higher the moral standard, the more likely individuals who consider it to be right, will be called hypocrites for holding such standards as being right.  In the area of debate over moral values, if the ONLY charge you hold is that of hypocrisy, then the individual doing such is likely very devoid of morals of their own they can persuade others to be valid.

Ok, besides this, who cares what people think of Christians or a belief in God?  Yes, people have lots of issues here, but that is life.

Actully they're considered hypocrites for holding it, yet not following it themselves, or folowing it selectively, when it fits their purpose. And hypocrisy is certainly not the only thing Christians are accused of.

Nice try though.

"But aren't these beliefes themselves instilled in people?" I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Could you elaborate?

What you call "good behaviour". Isn't what we percieve to be "good behaviour" a result of cultural indoctrination, thus making it relative?

I did not mean to touch a nerve. I am sorry if I did that., but this is how I genuenly view him. I was just trying to express where I'm coming from.

Then what you're talking about then isn't atheism.

That's called playing for the other team.  You know, the one that Hitler and Stalin belong to.
