why do people even care about performance?  the game runs fluidly, graphics DO NOT MATTER!

in fact, when I installed the game on steam after getting it on PS3, I cranked down the graphics as low as they would go because I Wanted the best performance.  You people and your obsession with graphics....sheesh.

I only care about graphics when the game is running on PC since it has the horse power, don't really care on consoles for as long as they can maintain 30FPS or more. As long as I can maintain max FPS allowed on output device on PC, graphics will always be maxed. The core game is pretty much the same other than better and more responsive controls on PC, and buying the PS3 version nets you like 3 versions I guess. Gotta love Valve.

Preach!!!!

Oh, I do.  I preach until my eyes pop out.  I'm just so sick of people going on and on and on about minor graphical differences as if it matters.  people are dedicating so much of their time to arguing about framerates, bump-mapping, shaders, anti-aliasing, and dozens of other things that don't matter when it comes to the game, it's no wonder games just aren't the classics they used to be.

Protip:  when you need to chop a video up and edit it to show the same scene on two games side by side to notice a slight, subtle difference, guess what, it doesn't matter.  If you needed that direct comparison to tell the difference, then the difference is negligible.  If people spent more time focusing on making a game FUN instead of worrying about this trivial bullshit, then maybe we'd get more truly good and original games as opposed to a slew of cookie cutter FPS games.

why in the world would you care about it?  Just becuase you have a car who's spedometer goes up to 220, i doesn't mean you have to go that speed "because you can."

As long as the game runs well, the minor differences in pixel rendering will not make a difference in your gaming experience, and if it does, maybe you should take up a different hobby, because clearly you're not a gamer, you're just a nerd.

I don't really care about god rays, depth of field or fancy smoke effects, portal is not the game for that. Fluidity is not that important either in this game, it would have been fine at 24fps as long as it is stable.

But I would have like some higher res textures to help with immersion. Walking up to the painting at the beginning it would have been nice to be able to see the brush strokes in 2011 instead of a blurry image. Or be able to read the text on the post at the elevator instead of a blurry morse code. The signs and messages that you can read are all fun and interesting, which makes the ones that are blurred stand out. Some of the control rooms later in the game look very rough. It would have been interesting to see some personal items laying around from the people that worked at Aperture through the years.

Gameplay is top notch anyway, which is what counts most. Definately a game I'll play through multiple times including co-op.

After finishing portal yesterday it sadly left me wanting more, i cant wait to get portal 2

you cranked down the graphics because your GPU couldnt handle it, not because it doesnt matter.

these comparisons are interesting to read but when ever there is minor differences some sites pick to much at the ps3 version even when theres nothing wrong with it, no ps3 version has visual edge and steam support aswell as a redemable pc copy to boot. sites like ign mark it the same.

i can bet you any money if it was 360 version tha had all the extras ps3 version would be marked down.

imo if the core game is same and visuals are comparable bearing in mind one may have had lead development, i think they should recieve same scores

now bring on left 4 dead 3 on ps3, with added bonus of having lfd1 and 2 modes bundled in

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

good to see multis looking/running as good and better, both this and crysis2's results suprised me hope futrure games (next GTA, MW3, battlefeild 3) have these types of results

now can valve give ps3 owners L4D please

l4d series is good but i really really hate the level design.

so id prefer a left 4 dead collection with 1 and 2 and 3

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

But I am a nerd o_O; people who play  a lot of video games are nerds lol. It just so happens that I also have money, and so I have a decent PC, so why would I settle for less? =) I don't care too much about graphics on consoles because they are what they are, but when it comes to PC gaming, you are talking about a whole different environment in general, and machine specs matter for max immersion since I have a nice setup for gaming and I can go much higher on a PC even when it comes to 3D stuff. I also have many hobbies outside of gaming as well ^^b.

I hope you don't think I started this thread for a war of any kind, a lot of people find these things interesting be whatever the reason, I'm just providing the info.

No, but the real reason I cranked it down was something nobody on this forum would even consider rational, resulting in my inevitable laughing right off the board.  Long story short, I'm kind of an eco-nut and every bit of conservation helps.  Lowering the specs and making it run smoother that way means less battery loss, and over a long period of time can effect your carbon footprint.  I live a life of relative quaintness.  I don't have a big house nor do I produce a lot of waste, and the closest thing to excess I have is a lot of videogames and movies, so I try to minimize my impact with them as best I can.

My computer was more than capable of handling it at it's highest settings.  I don't know if maybe you get off thinking you're inherently better than others for thinking your computer is beefier, but I enjoyed the game every bit as much as you did without worrying about processor speed.  so you can get off your high horse now.  (and don't bother claiming I'm on my high horse for attempting to be environmentally friendly, I didn't tell others to do it or treat people bad for not mimicking my actions.)
