Forums - Gaming - Microsoft React to PlayStation Network Outage

The PlayStation Network issues currently plaguing gamers throughout the globe could not have come at a worse time. Not only are there a number of high profile titles arriving on retail shelves, but also in the UK it’s a Bank Holiday weekend, meaning there was likely to be a large number of gamers heading online. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) have been reluctant to discuss the issues any more than is absolutely necessary, however things are a bit different in the Microsoft camp.

Following the launch of the Xbox Nations online event yesterday, which will see millions of gamers invited to play online for free this weekend, the Xbox 360 is almost certain to see record numbers  of

gamers flock online, especially considering the big name titles that launched in the past week. When approaching Microsoft, Electronic Theatre was offered the following comment.

“Of course it’s regretful that Sony is encountering issues at such a busy time, and Microsoft takes no joy in the problems gamers are having playing their favourite games online.” Stated the representative of Microsoft’s distribution network.

“That being said, we are expecting Microsoft’s robust online network to see an increase of traffic from those gamers who own both systems. Being able to play their games via the Xbox LIVE network could make all the difference for some gamers, and the Xbox Nations event will allow all of them to do just that – whether they have a Gold subscription or not.”

When pressed on the possibility of an increase in sales of the Xbox 360 console or specific games on the format, such as the recently released Portal 2 or Operation Flashpoint: Red River – which both use online gameplay to great effect – the representative refused to offer a comment. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on the PlayStation Network connection issues.

It's not that big of a deal.

Also, I hope people note which poortions of that article are froom Microsoft and which are from Electronic Theatre.  M$ seems to have taken the high road.  Gotta respect that.

I agree. That's exactly what MS should be doing with this situation. Capitolize on the oportunity, while not bragging or showing off! Big Ups MS! Great Job!

I wonder if people will complain about this particular PR.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I respect what Microsoft said

Very modest of MS. Too modest...

Complain?  Doubtful.  Ignore and/or choose not to give them props for it?  ABSOLUTELY!

I was going through the reviews on RottenTomatoes for Thor and they are all positive except for two (it was 27 to 2 last time I checked).  The thing is, though, that you can leave comments on RT for individual reviews.  No comments anywhere else except on those two negative reviews.

People on the internet FLOCK to negativity and pretty much ignore positivity.  It's really a sad commentary on society.

OT: It is really unfortunate about the PSN issues.  MS knows what that's like from that one Christmas time where a bunch of people where having so many problems that they gave us a free game.  I'm sure this free weekend was planned long before this issue popped up, so it's not so much them capitalizing, just an odd coincidence.  I don't have a PS3, but I still hope they get it up soon.
