Forums - Nintendo - And yet another rumor about 'Wii 2'..from IGN.

Some of this stuff I refuse to believe:

  • A price above $300
  • The controllers with an expensive 6' color screen
  • A 2011 release date
  • Size bigger than an original SNES  in height

Now, this is where all you VGChartz tech masters come in.....

HOW CAPABLE IS A revamped AMD R700 GPU AND AN OVERCLOCKED triple-core IBM PowerPC chipset?

In easy words... this console will be "just a little" more powerful than PS360? How is Nintendo planning to re-capture hardcore gamers with this outdated/high price console?

Or maybe those specs means "significantly" more powerful?

Or this's another IGNorant rumor?

With a mid level R700 GPU Wii2 would be a lot more powerfull than this gen HD consoles.

Well, the fact that 3DS was priced at $250 let me believe that the next homeconsole won't have a merely $50 difference. Probably $349. Also, Wii remote/Nunchucks (to me) are expensives, at least where I live.

About the size, I agree.

A lot? Thanks. Just one more question. By these specs, is possible to see if the architecture is similar to a PC?

Much more capable than the PS3/X360.  The R700 series is DX 10.1 compliant (though it says revamped so it may be up to 11 spec or that may refer to the manufacturing process which would allow for faster speeds and less heat).  It would also push about 2-3 times the Gpixel fill rate (depending the on model it's based on) of the PS3..

CPU wise, depends on if it's still based on the same POWER generation as the Xenon CPU or if uses Power6 or Power7 generation.  If it uses the latter 2, much better performance.

Now all it needs is 1gb of ram and multiplat games can easily be ported to wii2 without much effort for the smoothest running version. Faster load times too probably.

It's going to be a weird situation for multi platform games if sony and microsoft wait until 2014. 360 and ps3 will probably remain lead platform with wii2 getting the ports. Then when ps4 and xbox460 come out they'll be getting ports from game engines made for wii2.

at least this rumor is specific in its details.  makes it more interesting than the ones that are super generic.

Acording to some tech people in GAF this specs are 50% more powerful than the PS3 or even 75%, so it's a quite nice jump.

This year is impossible, unless Nintendo's given up on the platform completely (and if that's the case, the Wii would be surpassed in the long haul by the 360 and/or PS3, likely enough)

Nintendo can get another holiday season out of this, handily. This would also mean Skyward Sword got punted, and likely Dragon Quest X, which shouldn't be the case, and it would crowd out the 3DS in its first holiday season...

No. It is not the right time, and it would be a bad move on Nintendo to do it this year

Im sure they would do well even if its just the same design with 2MB of cache and out of order execution for the CPU. As for the GPU at this point I figure the best bet is the RV740. Im sure with better GDDR5 interface design and a little of the fixed function stuff removed as well as improvements in the 40nm process they could get that design well under 120mm^2 and into a reasonable thermal envelope.
