maybe they could actually make the series good. I liked the mythology and mechanics of it, but the sound design and lack of atmosphere killed the game for me

Lack of atmosphere? Are you serious? I was more creeped out by just wandering through the mansion in that game than the scariest part of any other survival horror I've played.

If they release this, I shall be buying it fo' sho

It just didn't work for me. It didn't feel SCARY. There was nothing about it that legitimately frightened me. I might have had a jump scare or two, but startling someone isn't the same as oppressive fear.

Well, I can say that I really liked the idea of "sanity meter" where you start seeing things if your avatar gets frightened, and some of those things can actually hurt you (I think... it's been a while). What I didn't like was the fact that it mostly was the gameplay mechanics that made me die, and not the fact that I didn't pay attention to the sanity meter.

It was a neat IDEA, but in execution it never really amounted to much. I laughed in amusement more than I cowered in fear. There was really nothing atmospheric or frightening about it.

There were about two dozen different effects, some specific to certain locations. Some of those effects really didn't work well, but others were truly evil. Accidently deleting your save file is pure horror!

No it's not, because I know that's not happening. I saw quite a few of them and NONE of them made me scared at best they made me giggle. And worst I just thought "ha-ha, Dyack. Oh, you must think you're SO clever". Seriously, Dyack is an auteur who can't back up anything. His only good game was Blood Omen and I'm pretty sure that was a fluke

Yeah, personally I loved the Gamecube.  Loved it.  I know the sales of the system won't back my opinion but there were just so many great games on that system, first and third party:  Metroid Prime, RE4, RE remake, Wind Waker, Viewtiful Joe, Smash Bros Melee, and of course, Eternal Darkness.

On topic, I don't think Retro would be doing a new ED, but I'm sure it would be stellar if they did.

And RE Zero!

Personally, it didn't impress me as much as the other two, but yeah it was still cool.  The parts where those leech men would suddenly come walking all crooked around the corner looking like something out of a Tool video; that was pretty creepy.

Also, I can't believe I forgot to mention Rogue Leader!
