The Wii 2 rumour mill continues to churn in both the UK and US, a full two months ahead of E3 in Los Angeles.
Today's latest news relates to Retro Studios, the Texas-based first developer best known in recent years for making the Metroid Trilogy and Donkey Kong Country Returns on Wii, as well as Metroid Prime on GameCube.
According to US site The Paul Gale Network, the studio is currently working on a project for Wii 2 that "everyone wants us to do"; a cryptic message made a little hard to decipher by the fact that all the franchises Retro seems to work on for Nintendo aren't exactly unlovable.
The news apparently came from two insiders at the studio in Austin, who said that the firm were amongst the first to receive Wii 2 dev kits.
Nintendo's Wii 2 has reportedly been named 'Project Cafe' behind-the-scenes, and features a custom IBM PowerPC CPU with three cores, a GPU from the ATI R700 family with a shader unit at version 4.1, and at least 512Mb of RAM.
CVG's sources have told us that the system will come with a controller that houses its own HD touch-screen. We expect and E3 reveal in June.
