Forums - Sales - After Wii's lowest ever week...what will its sales be next week?

The Wii may well be slowing down as of late, with its lowest week ever, but that doesn't mean its in trouble.

After a discount at best buy and this amazing offer at amazon, which has rocketed the Wii up to second in the most purchased video games item FULL STOP (Including games, accessories, pre-orders etc.), where will the Wii be this week?

Last week- 115,847

My prediction for next week-  135k, probably placing it on par, or slightly ahead, of the PS3.

(I dunno when this price cut cam into effect, so it may be this week's data, or next weeks...this whole system of being a week behind is very confusing...)

What do you reckon? Will the Wii see a rise in sales due to a price-cut? Or will its lack of quality SW hurt it too much with the launch of Mortal Kombat and Portal 2 in the wings? Answer below...

Oh, one more thing. Stupidly pessimistic predictions (Nintendogamer...) need not apply here.

Wii lowest sales ever? The fad is over!

Shame it only lasted 5 and a half years of course

Credit where it's due, the console was bound to fail, and it didn't. It changed the world, so a few months of average sales won't change that...

The Wii came out in 2006.

*ahem*

4 and a half years

6 years if the Wii2 releases in 2012, as is predicted. I don't think we'll see much of anything at E3 TBH. If we do only a vague hint of something, not a full-blown reveal like the 3DS last year...

i'm not going to argue for or against the fad argument. but the fact is wii sales didn't just start droping, they've been dropping since 2007.

True, but not at a substantial rate. They were more flat really, up until the second half of last year...

I doubt the Wii will fall below 10mil per year for a VEEEEEEEEEEEERY long time. The Wii will soon replace the PS2 as the budget console, and supporters of the PS2 will migrate to Wii when it hits $99 (I believe it's around £60 around here).

When this has been done, expect the Wii sales to hold steady for a couple years, regularly outselling the Wii2, akin to that of the PS2/3. The budget price will also attract PS360 owners of this gen and give them a secondary console, so why move to the Wii2? Unless something amazing happens, I doubt we'll be dropping for much longer.

Also, will someone actually post a prediction? Or did you all just visit this thread for the lulz

well i generally don't participate in prediction threads in part cause i'm really bad and in part cause i don't really have any respect for the numbers vgc posts.    ...but since i feel called out, without price-cuts the wii will go down from where it is now in the summer lull.  with the rumored price cut i think it will just maintain its current sales, whatever they currently are.

high. price cuts and casuals work well.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good
