Forums - Sales - Why do you think Killzone 3 isn't selling well?

I really loved Killzone 2.

Killzone 3 campaing sucked.

Multiplayer is not as good as Kz2.

It is 8 game tho we waited it would be 10 since they had the chanse to make it Halo/Cod like.

Take my love, take my land..

Halo is Halo. When I talk to my young patients who own an Xbox (they seldom own a PS3, honestly!) they often mention Halo when I ask what games they play. Halo is legendary.

Killzone is just a solid shooter franchise among many, such as Crysis, Quake, Far Cry, Medal of Honor, Resistance, Rainbow Six, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Wolfenstein, Battlefield, Doom and Duke Nukem.

Patients?

lol. Well I work in health-care and since I'm a gamer myself I sometimes ask my patients if they play video games lol.

Sweet man, what do you do? I'm actually in grad school now about to finish my first year of a physician assistant program. I heard you say patients and figured you worked in healthcare or were a psychologist, psychiatrist, etc, so I figured I'd ask.

WTF? KZ2 campaign was as generic as COD and the rest of shooters out there, KZ3 SP is a step up.

because stupid ps3 fans dont support their great exclusives.

if these games were on xbox they would sell like this:

Killzone 3: 6 million LTD

Uncharted 2: 7 million LTD

GOW3: 5.5 million

i dont get it these are the sales they deserve but they dont get them

I used to feel the same way, and used to get really irritated at ps3 owners; but now I think it's mainly bc of the difference between ps3's install base in the U.S./Americas compared to 360. Don't U.S./Americas gamers tend to buy more games than those in other regions?

Check Gran Turismo 5 and FIFA.

Yeah I def know GT5 and Fifa are more strongly supported by EMEAA. What I meant was in terms of the average number of games bought by gamers in each region. For example, if a survey was done, I feel gamers in the Americas (mainly U.S.) would be found to own more games on average than gamers in EMEAA.

I hear this over and over. Does annyone have the data or the means to access it? It would be interesting to compare games purchased in the EU and US pro capita.

I'm a doctor, a general practitioner. I recommend working in health care, it's fun! So what will you become when you ar done with your school?

Didn't care for Killzone 2 multiplayer very much and was going to skip KZ3 entirely.

Then my PS3 died and I waited a week and got the KZ3 bundle.

Glad I did because this time I actually really enjoy the multiplayer.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I haven't been too impressed with KZ3 to be honest.

Graphics are fine, and the story is ok. I just couldn't get into the online and I still rather play Resistance2 than this. I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone except a FPS fanatic.

So...

EDIT: I mean, its a good game, but not what I would call AAA.

Killzone 3 is selling well for a PS3 exclusive. If you're asking why Killzone 3 sales aren't as strong as Halo, Call of Duty, or Gears of War it's because it doesn't have as strong of a multiplayer component. Multiplayer is fun, but there is nothing really bringing you back into the game. Resident Evil 5 sold well despite having poor multiplayer because of the strong label Resident Evil 4 laid. Also Killzone doesn't have as epic of a story arc as other Sci-Fi shooters like Halo, Gears of War, or Resident Evil. The events in Killzone 3 are much more loosly tied to the events in other Killzones compared to the other mentioned sci fi shooters. So..

1. Not as addicitve multiplayer as compeditors

2. Not the king of multiplayer games, so it's forgotten quickly since everyone else is playing Call of Duty.

3. Not so massive story arc.

Just to let you know Killzone has great multiplayer. Many people are on (possibly more than Reach as of today) And Gears 2 multiplayer was pretty bad it had many bugs and people complaining. For the Cod and Halo part I agree with you but come on we both know it deserves much more sales than the 1.4 million right now.

DId you really just try to say that there are more people currently playing Killzone 3 than Halo Reach?  Here's a stat for you real quick.  Since KZ3's launch it has had 2,231,404 games played.

Just today alone Halo Reach had 2 million matches.  In other words in one day Halo Reach has had nearly as many player matches as Killzone has had since the day it launched.  The size of their communities and following isn't even remotley close.  The only franchise in the world that can hang with Halo in terms of FPS fanbase is Call of Duty.

To be fair COD does more than just hang with it, it's much, much bigger.

And your point?  On 360 COD isn't far bigger Black Ops has blown past Reach but every other Halo has hung pretty close to COD.  Not to mention COD gets far more exposure being a multi-platform title.  And are you really trying to compare two franchises that have proven track records of over 10 million units to Killzone?

I think he was just saying that your word choice made it sound like call of duty is barely keeping up with halo when infact it has surprassed it by a pretty wide margain even on just the xbox 360. The game isn't selling as well as it should be because killzone 2 had awkward controls so many people who hated them gave up on killzone, and 3 became more similar to call of duty, alienating the fans who enjoyed the second one. Legs were initially good due to bundles, but now it will drop off fast in my opinion.

As for the comments about had the ps3 exclusives been on 360. Killzone 3 would have probably sold better then on the ps3 but not by much. Plenty of 360 shooters don't sell too much better than their ps3 counterparts.

As for god of war 3, I belive it would have sold better or equally well on the 360. For a ps3 exclusive, it has ridiculously high americas to EMEAA sales. I think its fair to assume a very large portion of 360 owners owned a playstation 2 last gen, considering xbox 1 sales. I know anicdotal evidence really shouldn't be too convincing but its astonishing that every single 360 owner I know would pick god of war 3 if they could have one ps3 exclusive be on the xbox.

As for uncharted 2, it would have probably sold slightly less. Though 360 owners tend to buy more tps games, mass effect 2 has shown that unbelievable critical acclaim won't nessessarary cause massive sells for a 360 game.

people didn't lkie ME2 that much. Same think with Killzone 2. But a lot of people like Uncharted 2.

What? KZ3 is having better legs than 2 ever did......

And just because this game don't sell 10m or something like Gran turismo/COD games doesn't mean its "not selling well"

Tell me HOW MANY 360 exclusive even manage to sell 10m besides halos?  NADA! exactly so does that mean the rest of the 360 exclusive sold like crap?

Stop grasping at straws. Nobody expected this game to hit 10 million and to act like this game will even get near that amount is being disingenuous.

grasping at staws? Im just saying just cause a game doesn't sell like another much bigger selling game doesn't mean it sold crap.

Yes, but nobody here actually thinks that it needs to sell like Halo or CoD to say it's selling well. If you can find someone here that thinks that, I'll concede the point.

That's true but why can't it sell like God of war or Uncharted. I'm not expecting it to get Halo and COD day 1 sales and GT5 legs. This game truly deserves it. Too bad Killzone 2 and Killzone wern't that great.

Uhm, it isn't? It is right in line with Killzone 2 which had very good sales. It had a slightly lower opening, and is showing slightly stronger legs. The two are looking to average out to pretty similar sales potential too really. Why do people seem to think it is selling worse? Are you looking at first week and then just jumping to conclusions from there? I really don't understand this topic.

Yeah but at the end of the day Killzone 3 will probably only outsell Killzone 2 by .500k. Hopefully it breaks 3 million. While god of war 3 and Uncharted 2 have a chance at 5 million. And Gran Turismo 5 has a chance at.............. we all know
