Forums - Sales - Why do you think Killzone 3 isn't selling well?

Not exactly. Reach got better scores than Killzone 3 but I prefer Killzone 3 better. And GG will definelty make another Killzone game. And Killzone 3 has some pretty good sales. But what I'm trying to state is that Killzone is an amazing FPS series. Argubaly one of the best. But it doesn't get the sales it deserves.(I'm note saying the sales should be as big as Halo)

I wouldn't argue that Killzone is an impressive and important series, but that doesn't mean it necessarily deserves an incredible amount of sales over what it has/does (and certainly not to Halo levels).

Yes I agree Halo was an excellent game series from day 1 and totally deserves the sales it gets. But what I'm trying to say is KZ3 definetly deserves more sales than 1.33 million in 6-7 weeks. It started out as a fail copy of Halo (just like Forza) and went on to being one of the best fps on PS3.

Killzone 3 is selling well for a PS3 exclusive. If you're asking why Killzone 3 sales aren't as strong as Halo, Call of Duty, or Gears of War it's because it doesn't have as strong of a multiplayer component. Multiplayer is fun, but there is nothing really bringing you back into the game. Resident Evil 5 sold well despite having poor multiplayer because of the strong label Resident Evil 4 laid. Also Killzone doesn't have as epic of a story arc as other Sci-Fi shooters like Halo, Gears of War, or Resident Evil. The events in Killzone 3 are much more loosly tied to the events in other Killzones compared to the other mentioned sci fi shooters. So..

1. Not as addicitve multiplayer as compeditors

2. Not the king of multiplayer games, so it's forgotten quickly since everyone else is playing Call of Duty.

3. Not so massive story arc.

Just to let you know Killzone has great multiplayer. Many people are on (possibly more than Reach as of today) And Gears 2 multiplayer was pretty bad it had many bugs and people complaining. For the Cod and Halo part I agree with you but come on we both know it deserves much more sales than the 1.4 million right now.

DId you really just try to say that there are more people currently playing Killzone 3 than Halo Reach?  Here's a stat for you real quick.  Since KZ3's launch it has had 2,231,404 games played.

Just today alone Halo Reach had 2 million matches.  In other words in one day Halo Reach has had nearly as many player matches as Killzone has had since the day it launched.  The size of their communities and following isn't even remotley close.  The only franchise in the world that can hang with Halo in terms of FPS fanbase is Call of Duty.

That being said Killzone 3 is phenominal and easily deserves 5 million sales but unfortunatley won't get close to that at all.   I've been saying for a while Im worried about PS3 exclusive sales this year, both Killzone 3 and LittleBigPlanet 2 have had very slow starts and with the number of exlusive PS3 games plus all the excellent third party games this year sales are being cannobilzed.

I'm pretty sure it's 2.24 million in 24 hours. I checked on Gurila games. But for some reason I can't find anyone anymore on Halo Reach.

Edit: People playing campain on Reach are counted towards playing online. If you connected to xbox live. The true total is 32,000 right now not including campaign.

Only co-op campaigns are counted because you need to be in a matchmaking lobby to play that. When I turn on Halo I see about 130,000 online players, so assuming 8 players in an average game, that means at any time about 15,000 games are being played. A match is 10 minutes long, 15 for firefight, but only 4 people play firefight at a time, and assuming 10/60 minutes as down time between matches, you get about 75,000 matches an hour, which translates roughly to 1.8 million matches a day.

However this is average, and Reach is a lot older.

1.4m is slow for a KZ game! you out yo mind?

right now i have my problems with KZ3 and they have nothing to do with how it plays cause it plays better then any shooter i've ever played.

1.4m is slow? hell! no. its tracking better then KZ2 and looks to reach 2m faster then KZ2 and has the momentum to do 3m which KZ2 hasn't done yet. come back to this thread or continue to follow the sales of KZ3.

i'll even bet avatar control to nothing that KZ3 sales 2m faster then KZ2 and it will reach 3m in sales or come closer to selling 3m then KZ2.

4. Not being the star exclusive on the year of release.

Just to let you know Killzone has great multiplayer. Many people are on (possibly more than Reach as of today) And Gears 2 multiplayer was pretty bad it had many bugs and people complaining. Killzone Multiplayer is unbalanced. It's not as polished, and the level of skill varies significantly. Halo separates new players from vetarans based on rank, and unlocks custom armor based on credits earned, and has daily chalenges. Call of Duty unlocks perks, weapons, and weapon mods based on $$$ which is then based off kills. Halo and CoD are polished online games, very compeditive, and I severly doubt that Killzone has anywhere nearly as many online users as either.

wait what? I'm confused here a bit so help me out. You list that halo and cod have things they can unlock as they progress etc.....kinda makes it sound as if KZ does not have such things or something....have you played KZ3 mp?

No my PS3 broke, going to play KZ3 co-op with my friend in the summer. I'm basing a lot of my arguement off KZ2, which I did not feel was up to the level of quality Halo 3, Gears 2 or Modern Warfare 1 were at.

yeah I figured as much since what you said just made no sense...KZ3 mp has all of them too...and it's a LOT of fun :D I suck at FPS MP comparatively but I can't seem to stop playing this one

Yea, I was the same with Lost Planet 1. That game really got me into online multiplayer and made me a better shooter player overall. KZ3 has rank bonuses, but just from hype Halo and CoD are bigger online. By no means is quality better, I love KZ, just I think CoD and Halo are a bit simpler.

Also being on top is a big deal. If you're not on top of sales and multiplayer matches, no one is talking about you. Battlefield may be better then CoD online, but if CoD is the benchmark, everyone will talk about and play CoD despite quality. Same goes for Killzone and any medium volume game. The quality might be there, but because other games did it first, it's not getting the recognition it deserves from casual gamers.

Hence CoD got big before Battlefield did (on consoles), so it's sales exploded. Halo basically introduced console online play, so it's sales are also killer. Gears manages strong sales too because Gears came before Halo on 360, it has great commercials and advertizing in general, and the main story is simple, yet different and pretty deep for a shooter. It also made wave based multiplayer big.

Just pre-ordered Gears 3, can't wait for the Beta.

Think the controls are still a problem for people... atleast that's my impression. I think they should've made it so you can have the option to play acurate controls or the same controls of KZ2... and you can only play with the same people who have same controls of course. It would've brought a new take on all the MP modes of KZ3.

KZ 2's controls should've been acurate and since it wasn't, it was something that people complained about... so bad word of mouth affected KZ2 and now KZ3

All gaming systems, consoles/PC, have thier perks... why fight over preferences? I like Coke and you like Pepsi, that's it, let's not fight over which toy we like best cause that's what they are. Is someone's preference in a toy important or is the relationship between you and your neighbor more important? Answer is obvious, but THE most important thing is your relationship with God almighty. God Bless you in Jesus's name.

I can communicate without talking... I can send a loved one money without actually sending money... and I can commit theft without the product disappearing, the point of theft is the point of theft not one of it's possible symptoms which is the product dissappearing. The thief wants to gain something without paying for it, that's the point of theft, the thief doesn't have to care or anybody else has to care if the product dissappears. The product dissappearing is just a possible symptom of theft. Gifts are sacrfices, in order to give a gift, it has to be a genuine sacrfice/gift, meaning a copy of the game isn't still in your PC. Piracy is theft and/or being a culprit of theft.

I get a kick out of the fact that people scoffed at those who think Killzone should sell as well as Halo for almost a full page in this thread even though NOBODY said that. I'd say I was shocked, but I really expect nothing less from people here at this point.

Like a Halo game.

Exactly my point!

A game in a franchise that deosn't sell like Halo should sell like a Halo game?

*does not compute *

It doesnt. But

-People know that Halo is one of the top selling FPS games.
-But generally don't know how much a specific franchise's game is sold.

Because of this uncertainty/lack of knowledge, the former is used as the standard of comparison.

That changes nothing. Halo isn't a good metric when comparing sales to something that's always sold at least 2 times less than it.

For a Killzone game, Killzone 3's sales are about what the franchise does (give or take 100k or so right now). Halo shouldn't be used as a way to minimize not only Killzone, but nearly any and every FPS franchise on the market. Only Call of Duty sells on comparable (or higher) levels and we know with the amount of FPS titles released just this gen, that makes it an obvious exception.

It's one of the reasons I've avoided posting much in here. The topic was flawed from the very first post (OP).

but why? it just does?

why cant this game be huge like a halo or COD, imo its 100x better. why cant this franchise be bigger. it doesnt seem right to say its selling well for what it is

Yeah, that one post totally merited a 25 post discussion on mocking the one person who said that. You're totally right.

You said NOBODY. Just understand the error and move on, it's not a big deal bud. It only takes one remark to spark a huge discussion. You've been on the forums long enough to know that.

I tip my hat to you CGI! You are CORRECT! I salute you in your rightness! Happy now?
