Yes, it will cause me to put a game down and walk away from it. Also bad contrast!
Tan text on black background is terrible. Please don't do that.

If that was true then that surely means the text will be more unreadable on an SD TV.... it's ridiculous to make a game like this that you have to strain your eyes to read when it's such a simple fix. I was going to get Gods vs Humans on Wiiware but after the demo I didn't bother.
If people are having trouble reading text on an HD TV then the developers really screwed over any SD viewers. I know it's annoying having to cater for the lowest common denominator (for example when VGC 2.0 came out in widescreen I had to scroll in 4 directions to view the site, which is silly) but developers don't seem to have any courtesy sometimes.

But why should they make the text smaller in rpg's particularly. In Oblivion, no problems at all reading all the books wich made my experience much more interesting. In Mass effect 2, I didn't even bother reading the Codex entries, making my time with the game very superficial. If a good part of the game revolves around reading, please adjust the font size to make it simple to decipher. And thus, making the game more enjoyable.
Another thing, as someone said earlier, it would be nice if the text would not bland with the background. Two Worlds 2 was atrocious in this.
Anyway, that's it. Montreal won. Yes!

The size of the screentext would be adequate on a PC, because the player sits much closer to the screen (proportional to the screen size), but on a TV it becomes hard to read. |
On the other hand, have you ever played Oblivion on PC? Personally I'd much rather have too small text on consoles than too big text on PC, and I do play on both consoles and PC. It's just that after Oblivion's horrible menus, I've been pretty hateful towards big fonts.

I have an HDTV and an "ordinary" one. I play a lot of rpg's and I just love reading everything I find. I bought Two Worlds 2 and traded it after a while. One of the reasons was the almost unreadable texts. Same thing with Mass Effect 1 and 2. Now, I search the forums or try out a demo before buying. Divinity II looks good and the text is an easy read, so everything is good. But I had trouble with the Dragon Age 2 demo. |
Get some glasses.
That's a serious answer. If you can't read the text on a large HDTV, then your vision obviously isn't very good.

I've never had issues when playing in hd, but I've noticed The Show 11 has some significant issues with certain pages having such blurry text you can't read any of it in sd.
Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
riiiiight i wear glasses and have a 32" bravia running my 360 on a component (hdmi port is broken, doesnt look a big bit different anyway) ON 1080P and i have never ever had a problem with any in game text...
So, I have just bought Venetica. They really outdid themselves with the small texts on this one. I can't read the conversation choices and everything in the pause menu.

that happened to me as well. I figure it was just because I didn't have an HD tv. Hell, I couldn't even tell what some of the button prompts were.
