We had fire emblem with online multiplayer in Fire Emblem 11, and it wasn't very good, A because of hacking and B because its hyper-competitive with people who RNG-abuse their characters. Plus the core appeal of Fire Emblem is meant to be that of lopsided battles, where a smaller, more powerful group of people hack down a larger horde of foes. |
Fine, make it where one person uses their characters while another uses the foes from the game.

Dear Nintendo,
For the Wii2, I want the console to be fun.
That's all that matters.
“These are my principles; if you don’t like them, I have others.” – Groucho Marx
6 player local multiplayer support (most HDTVs could split the screen 6 ways while still providing a larger screen area and more pixels than the TVsmany of us used to play games on).
Single disc online multiplayer; obviously this would have a limited number of gameplay modes and maps associated with it in games, but allow me to invite my friends to play games I own on my system. This would (likely) result in higher game sales for games that implement this well, because far more people would be exposed to quality games in a positive way.
3DS - Home Console connectivity.
Online store Homebrew developer kit. While I wouldn't expect Nintendo to open up the platform to everyone, and most of these applications should be developed using a high level interpreted language run on a virtual machine, a lot of value could be added to the system by hobbiests.
Integrated Avatar/Achievement system ... How I would implement this is producing the system with a built in Animal Crossing like game, allow developers to create achievements that have a meaningful in-game impact on this built in game (new items, activities, puzzles, characters, quests, etc.). Ultimately, the world of your avatar would start to reflect the experiences you have had while playing in that world as well as in the games you used that avatar in.
I don't want an one part controller but more preferably something like this:

1. 300-350 price tag
2. Better/innovative interface for gaming
3. Better online infrastructure
4. Great games
| Viper1 said: 1. A Direct 3D capable GPU. 2. A downclocked 4 or 8 core Power6 CPU. 3. 2 GB of DDR3 and 2 GB of 1T-SRAM. 4. Holographic Storage for game media (Nintendo has a patent on this) or at least flash based media. 5. SSD. 6. 802.11n Wi-Fi. 7. Fully robust online infrastructure with steam integration. 8. Blow us away with something innovative. |
1. OpenGL works too. No complex custom languages that your known for.

A system 3rd parties will also put games on so I can only own one system.
Frankly, if were talking EVERYTHING that I would want:
1) 1080p support, HDMI support. Not so much because I'm obsessed with graphics, but because its been shown that third parties are. And they WILL skip the next Nintendo system if it isn't at the same level graphically as the 'most powerful system'. IE: Cafe needs to be equal to or more powerful than the PS3.
2) Upgradable BIOS and DLC. Ever since the GC, I've felt that Nintendo needs to make their hardware adaptable to changes in the future. In the Wii gen, we saw them do this very slightly with games like Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. But where was the options for DLC for Smash Bros or Pokemon? If ANY game this gen needed downloadable patches and upgrades for levels, it was Smash Bros Brawl. Heck, they could have even added additional levels to Mario Galaxy. Which brings me to my next point...
3) Bigger HDD. Now I don't think 320 Gigs is necessary. But even casual fans of the Wii stated the HDD was way too small even just to download WiiWare/VC games. I myself ran into this problem. They should at least add enough to anticipate for current needs plus a little extra space for what they can't anticipate. Maybe 120 GB with the option to upgrade later? You can buy a 120 GB HDD at the store for like $20-$30 bucks. It really shouldn't be a problem anymore. Which brings me to the next point...
4) Game Installation. Nintendo in the past said their major hangup with using disks is loading time. So why didn't the Wii allow for installing games? We all know its because of the added cost of a HDD. But next gen, I don't see how they could get around it. ESPECIALLY if the system uses Blu Ray...I couldn't imagine the lag on a read only game. Or actually I could...look at Ninja Gaiden 2 or MGSIV.
5) Traditional 8-10 button controller. The Wiimote was a nice experiment, but it shouldn't have been the main controller. Heck, I would have been thrilled at just another GC controller with motion support added. And that's what I'm hoping they do with the next console. A standard controller with motion support added. Just put the motion sensor on the side of the controller. Though I am predicting Nintendo is going to come up with a motion controller option that doesn't require a sensor bar, which would allow for any shape and style of controller.
Everything else I want with the system is not hardware related and mostly focuses on third parties actually supporting the system.
