Forums - Gaming - What would be so special about an HD WII?

I just don't see what would be special about it. Everyone that has a wii would go, "I already have hd on the HD consoles....". Plus, The HD wii would be more expensive than the WII so about the same price as the other HD systems, so the price isn't really going to matter. AND, third parties aren't going to jump on board because guess what? The HD systems have huge lead on the HDWII. The only positive outcome i see out of an HDWII is more Wii sales because of a price cut, but that would be a fail also because who would want a wii when an HDWII is out? Its like buying a gamecube at this state in generation.

So the following would happen if an HDWII came out with a price cut on the WII

- Third parties would not care because current HD systems have a lead.

- People would not jump on board because there are already HD systems out for the same price.

I just don't see it happening. Unless Nintendo goes into super mega overdrive with the first party, but then the 3DS would be left out. Not a good spot to be in at all if you ask me.

Because HD is magic, or something

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

everything thats special about the hd twins. great graphics and good online.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Honestly, nothing.

If SuperWii would just be a HD Wii (It wont), then it would be a huge letdown on Nintendo's part. They would be 5/6 Years behind Sony and MS with tech and support and it would actually help Sony/MS keep the PS3/360 on the market for a while longer.

They need to aim higher than the current machines if they want to stay relevant. If they are on the same level people will still pick ps3/360 for the extensive backlog of titles.

They don't need to aim higher, but they likely will, simply because the PS360 have considerable stumbling blocks that could be easily surmounted (namely it would be easy to cheaply build a 360 with 1 GB of RAM, and suddenly have a much better 360)

Nintendo can be positioned to get everything out of this, if they play their cards right. 3rd party parity is now easy as building a device and putting it out there, given how narrow 3rd parties' profit margins are, and then Nintendo can edge them out with unique exclusives

Though with a samey console, the burden will be entirely on Nintendo's teams to put out the right kinds of games. The GameCube was samey, and with GameCube games got GameCube sales, but GameCube could have done much better with Wii games (the ones that weren't motion-intensive, even)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I wouldn't buy it, at least for a very long time. I would see no point. Same goes for PS3 and 360 successors. I'm not pushing out 300 for each new system right now.

but then when ps4/720 hits a year or two later nintendo will be in the same boat. Supporting its platform by itself while third parties make multiplat games for sony and MS.
