and its not like Nintendo are starting next gen, they joining this gen

The joined this gen back in later 2006.  Around the same time the PS3.  An entrant into a generation has never been defined by the horsepower of the console.

Just to graphics whores and those that have trouble grasping why people still play Pong and Super Mario Bros.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Mybe we will get lucky and they will add in an upscaller for the currect Wii titles.

Rather pointless. The thing already exists as an external peripheral, and its gains are very insignifacnt, if there are any at all.

Yes, but what about this Dolphin thingy? What if something like that was implemented (can it?)

I don't follow, sorry. Do you mean Dolphin, the GC/Wii emulator?

Yes. I realize it's an emulator, but supposedly most Wii games put on it look superb and in glorious HD (on the PC) because of whatever it does. So can't whatever it does be done by Nintendo as well to make the Wii games look much better than "insignificant gains"?

Not unless it's an expensive external peripheral adding power/a Wii HD. You can't do 720p easily. IMO, either one is financially bad, both for Nintendo and the consumers.

can't see why i'd be interested in this as the wii has mostly been devoid of games I'd enjoy ever since its launch in 2006.

I wonder how Nintendo will approach the next generation, and whether they will be able to convince me to buy another of their consoles.

I'm guessing they will secure 3rd party support, so when the PS3 and 360 get Call of Duty so will the Wii 2. the icing on the cake will be Nintendos first party games.

this is an excellent idea imo, they are in a good position and they dont have to discontinue the Wii, they can run both similtaneously.

however i think that they will release this console at a similar price to the 360 or PS3, because the low entry price will allow them to compete with the current HD consoles. which is why i think Sony wont release a new console, since they will compete directly with the Wii 2. Microsoft... i dont't know.

By the way, have you guys seen this:

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/298241/news/wii-2-has-all-new-hd-controller-out-2012-sources/

What's most exciting about the Wii successor however is its all-new controller, which industry sources have indicated is not simply an upgraded Wii Remote, and will even feature a built-in HD screen.

This is far and away the weirdest rumor yet

If we want to see a controller that'll suck down batteries like underage college kids down Natural Light, then that'll happen

do you think this will be somewhat like the Dreamcast Controller with the Virtual Memory Unit? (VMU)

having that screen seems totally crazy, but I can't imagine it costing that much, it worked as a gimmick for the Dreamcast, and most people don't know it existed or have simply forgotten, could work well (is it too much hope that the screen can detach and be played like the VMU could? :P)

It seems Nintendo is going to start next Gen from both front even with a huge lead. E3 is going to be huge.

Now everyone's going to be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

I see Game Informer's aim.

I don't sense the excitement in this site as I feel elsewhere, this is huge if true.

VGChartz is one of the few places that has actual Nintendo fans, who have been driven out of most other major online gaming outlets. Non-nintendo fans are ironically genuinely more excited about this idea.

The response over at GoNintendo is similarly more middling

What non Nintendo fans couldn't care  less about what Nintendo does or what new console they will bring.  That's what I think.

360/PS3 owners' are not going to buy a new Nintendo system just so they can finally play the same 3rd party games that they already can! Sure there are exclusives (e.g., mario and zelda if it ever comes out...), and for some that may be enough to buy a new Nintendo system but for me I am not buying a Nintendo system that will have a handful of exclusives  and either (a) the same 3rd party support as the 360/ps3 which essentially doesn't add anything new, or (b) limited to non-exsistant 3rd party support which is what the wii has received this generation.

One thing I've learnt over this and last generation is that it is 3rd party support that really makes a system great. It happened with the PS2 and it is now happening to the PS3 and 360. First party exclusives can only carry a console so far.

yea exactly my point, Mr Khan was saying hw reveal = automatic win. Not true, it has to be good.

and honestly what are the chances of ninty copied ms/sony threads popping up? They did paved way for HD gaming :P

I said ages ago that as soon as we have confirmation of a HD Nintendo console that I would be there with the "lol copyz" posts.

They were all over the forums when Move was shown, nothing was done about it by the mods so... Only fair I suppose

lol none of the companies invented HD and it is a natural evolution to what things should be like. So you mean Sony copied MS by adding HD to their console as well? lol

Nintendo invents most of its stuff or adds stuff that never was used for games before so that can be called copy when others do the same

Of course it will have HD but not the same thing can be said about motion and analogue sticks and stuff. If it wasn’t for Nintendo we would probably still be playing with joysticks and a button till this day :P

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I believe that this true and made a thread saying something like this would happen, awhile back.
