Do I need to provide quotes from Nintendo that stated they inteded to ship enough to prevent sell outs?  They never gave any sell through projections other than it won't sell out.

The first shipments was  prepared for only by the end of March, Nintendo expected new shipment to ready soon after as most including expected stock to run out. People were pre ordering like crazy so they can get a chance to find one. Selling half in that same period is very disapointing.

You are comparing percentages against a value with no context.  Why?  They broke sales records in the US and many EMEAA nations.  How can you even attempt to call that disappointing?

Like I stated , they pushed a far larger volume of product into the channel than any console launch in history to prevent sell outs and price gouging gray market prices.   Selling 50% is spot on when your goal is to prevent sell outs.

Investors wer pissed at Nintendo for leaving so much money on the table with the Wii (graymarket prices exceeding MSRP...sometimes even by double) for so long that Nintendo's strategy with the 3DS is to ensure that doesn't happen again.  Hence the combination of high price and high volume.

When has Nintendo ever had an issue with sellouts, they actually love it. Every one, me, the media, Nintendo, the internet expected crazy numbers for the 3DS. There were tons of threads asking if we will ever see a 3DS on stock for the next year.

I repeat, no one expected any of these 4 million to still be around, Nintendo over estimated demand and it shows. Now, once games, I mean Nintendo games start coming out, the 3DS will once again be a huge force to deal with.

Another extremely over-shipped Capcom game, they will never learn.

Although the game is selling very well it is crazy to ship 1 million units of a fighting game port on a console with 2 million userbase. Half a million units sold would even be a huge accomplishment.

You are going to make me post links, aren't you.  You'd think by now that people understood that I know what I'm talking about.

Plus many others.   I don't care what gamers were expecting in terms of sales.  I'm talking abotu what Nintendo, investors and analysts expected. And to that extent, they did exactly what they set out to do.  Break records and still have stock on the shelves.  And you want to call that poor results?

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Considering right now it is the best 3DS game, I expect this to reach at least half a million if not a million lifetime.

Won't sell out and half of the stock left are two different things.

Considering Nintendo let the Wii sell out for nearly 3 years straight, I don't believe they care about low stock ect ..

Okay so this is the same as Maxwell's thread.

It's shipped 1 Million units, so there's a whole bunch of games on shelves/warehouses/boats/whatever.

And as for the conversation above...

Nintendo vastly overestimated demand for the 3DS and 3DS software.

first million 'shipper'? yeah

Please explain to me what is this "overestimating demand"? You mean Nintendo sold too many 3DS systems to retailers?

I'm talking more about the SW side of things.
