You are comparing percentages against a value with no context. Why? They broke sales records in the US and many EMEAA nations. How can you even attempt to call that disappointing? Like I stated , they pushed a far larger volume of product into the channel than any console launch in history to prevent sell outs and price gouging gray market prices. Selling 50% is spot on when your goal is to prevent sell outs. Investors wer pissed at Nintendo for leaving so much money on the table with the Wii (graymarket prices exceeding MSRP...sometimes even by double) for so long that Nintendo's strategy with the 3DS is to ensure that doesn't happen again. Hence the combination of high price and high volume. |
When has Nintendo ever had an issue with sellouts, they actually love it. Every one, me, the media, Nintendo, the internet expected crazy numbers for the 3DS. There were tons of threads asking if we will ever see a 3DS on stock for the next year.
I repeat, no one expected any of these 4 million to still be around, Nintendo over estimated demand and it shows. Now, once games, I mean Nintendo games start coming out, the 3DS will once again be a huge force to deal with.
