If anything, it will make other hackers redouble their efforts. Stop one hacker, more will take his place because of all the publicity and the knowledge Sony won't fight to the bitter end. Good job Sony!

you are both fricken correct.  Geohotz coudln't care less about you and I, but what he was being sued for the reprecussions do affect consumer rights.  So it don't matter if he is mother teresa or the biggest prick in the world.  if sony were to have tacken this to court and won in what was originally brought up.  it would have been a sad day for consumers.

after reading the settlement:

Sony: Either follow these rules or WE WILL BURY YOU!!!!

The case was to set a legal precedent for future violators. Niether side won... Geohot put less effort in, and came out perfectly fine. 

Hey, I'm a PS3/Wii owner now. Who is open to modding. Who was annoyed by Anon and happy when they stopped. Where I have only seen you side with Sony(and push false information(which can be seen in this thread)) 

Cleanly and fairly. How didn't Geohot do that? He didn't cheat, pirate or anything of that magnitude. He bought his games fair and square like the two of us. 

It doesn't, but it also doesn't hurt the other 'legit' gamers 

again sony won plain and simple, Geohotz knew he had no chance of winning so he caved in and settled, not a complicated end result, it's obvious. and what less effort? He collected money from fans, he acted like an idiot on the net and tv, he did interview after interview..what did sony do? they sued him, and pushed him into a corner where he had to shut his trap and settle.

and LOL hey I Love ps3/psp, I only own ps3/psp/ds now but I do play on all three consoles. I do support other consoles too, for example I do say it's too early to call 3ds doomed etc. You might wanna wait a bit till you jump to conclusions. cuz if I jump to conclusions about you from what I have seen you post, that doesn't paint a pretty picture either. To be frank I couldn't care less what you think of me or what these paranoid bs about 'false' information is...but seriously, hotz lost, he is gonna do exactly what sony wanted him to do from the begining but this time only like a lil bitch with a leash around his neck. I don't think for a second that Sony's only objective was to stop one guy from hacking.

They wanted to prevent set precedent where if you hack, you will be punished. The problem with this settlement is that nobody got punished, unless you consider not using Sony products a punishment. I guess that's pushishment or a blessing depending on how you look at it.

But this case will do nothing to stop people from hacking in the future, so IMO the case is a loss for Sony.
