the make up of users on forums will not anywhere near accurately reflect the make up of sales in the video game console industry.  In much of the West, the PS3 does not have the level of 'mass appeal and support' the Wii and to a lesser degree the 360 has.  Those who fall into the bracket of 'mass appeal' are not the kind of people who post on forums such as this one.

One such 'mass appeal' is removed, the gap between the platforms is significantly reduced.  Hence why Nintendo fans don't dominate most internet forums, as the 'mass appeal' won't accurately be reflected on them.

At the beginning of the generation, PS3 fans were criticized everywhere they went for their console choice IRL.  Even going into Gamestop to buy a PS3 game in 2007, the employees would question my console choice.  "Xbox 360 is getting Halo 3, why don't you like it?"

As a result, people needed to vent on the internet.

We can even look at the history of this site.  At the beginning it was overwhelmingly Nintendo fanboys.  Most just freely attacked / trolled the PS3 and were even encouraged to do it by the mods at the time (FishyJoe, Shams, etc.).  Sony fans would almost be banned just for saying positive things about the PS3 while Nintendo fans (aka Gballzack) would get away with murder for a long time.  Eventually, the Sony fanboys started arriving to defend themselves and now there are more Sony fanboys than Nintendo fanboys on this site.

I think that's why MS fanboys never showed up here in numbers.  They were never caught in the fire as much.  At the beginning of the generation, there was more of the non-aggression pact between the 360 and Wii fans (aka Wii60.).

Sony fanboys had two fronts to fight (Nintendo and Microsoft) while Microsoft and Nintendo fanboys were mostly focused on Sony and not each other.  I guess it was because the underdogs uniting from last generation.  At least thats how it worked in Fanboy culture.  I was always more pro Nintendo and Sony and not so much MS.

To this day, in raw membership this site is more pro Sony, but in power structure - it is more pro Nintendo.  People that run this site are more pro Nintendo, I think.

Yes everyone has been caught in the fire, even us 360 fans. Most just play the games and don't go onto vent about why they are awsome or whatever was vented.

I am not convinced there are more PS3 fans on the internet. If I was to base my opinion purely on this site I would say they are more vocal. As for earlier comments about well informed again based on comments on this site I would question that they were MORE informed than any other group.

If we are talking about more Sony fans on the internet then I think I would agree primarily because it covers a variety of tech and so based on this would beat out Microsoft and Nintendo. I would also say Sony fans tend to be very much biased towards Sony products. Sometimes for good reasons sometimes not. I will always remember Sony Fanboy mate with his Sony TV, Laptop, Playstions, PSP and yes his Sony GPS... I mean a Sony GPS it must be the only one I have ever seen. That is what I call dedicated, if Sony made cars he would ditch his Audi tomorrow.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

There are 2 reasons:

1. PS3 had an wireless internet rounter: and with most PS3 in an bedroom or lounge room you aren't going to run an ethernet cord thoughout your house or upstairs for your 360 or give in to paying 100 dollars for that wireless attachment. An with many ISP providers providing all there rounters with wireless abilities its more convinent just to hock up your ps3 over wifi than the hassel with the early models of the 360.

2. Xbox Live costs money: Why bother connecting online if you aren't going to pay the subscription fee. PS3 owners might as well create an account because its quick, simple and its free to do so.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

PS3 owners are rich as fuck, I have an Ipad and Android phone on me at all times and I even use them while I'm playing games on my expensive as sin TV, overbearing sound system which is pushing me back into my reclining leather arm chair, which also happens to sit next to my three shelves of games and shit. Using this evidence, I can say that PS3 owners are rich and all have Ipads that they use to post on game forums on a continous basis. It's not about numbers, it's about the ease of use.

But really, go visit IGN, Eurogamer or Giant Bomb (best site on the net), they are overwhelmingly filled with 360 fans.

That's funny.

What you said may be humour but there are some elements of truth in it. Apple users are taken to be more educated and financially well off than the average PC users.

But that is pretty obvious seeing that a good education mostly lead to a good job and a good job pays good money and you tend to buy the more expensive house, the more expensive car, eat in expensive restaurants, buy the expensive computer, phone etc.,

Like Apple products I think most PS3s are bought (not for kids by parents) but by people who can afford to buy it for themselves.

What is the bestselling exclusive on the PS3? Not a FPS. It's a driving  sim that appeals mostly to adults. Young adults dominate the internet gaming forums.

Everytime (almost) that I am in the game store or the gaming section of a store I see young adults and adults hanging around the PS3 shelves. Wii and x360 shelves are mostly surrounded by teenagers and yopunger, especially since kinect.

Disclaimer: I am NOT by any means stating that a PS3 fan is more intelligent than a x360 or wii fan.

I definitely was.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Could it be that more people like the PS3?

You don't have to be a fan to buy the cheapest console on the market. If you buy the most expensive, you are generally a fan of that product.

but there are less ps3 owners than wii/360 owners?

It could be that there are more PS3 fans, but there are more 360 units out there because most 360 owners are on their 2nd or 3rd unit due to the 360's failure rate.

As for the Wii, most people I know that have the Wii aren't even real gamers and therefore don't frequent gaming forums.  I think generally people who come to these gaming forums are hardcore gamers and not casual gamers.

  1. VGChartz 3.0 doesn't allow Windows Phones to post on the forums.
  2. 360 fans are too busy fapping over videos of Jessica Chobot on XBL and the new chubby, but sexy, Bridget O'Neill. Back in the day, there was a wild piggy beast named Trixie that was allowed to roam free on XBL. Thanks to a brave fellow who sacrificed his own life by impregnating this beast, she has left XBL to raise her family in a familiar habitat in the jungles of Peru, where they can roam free as  a heard. The departure of this foul beast has made it possible for people to go on XBL without the fear of vomiting.
  3. 360 fans are much more attractive and social. They are too busy out having sex, than to be bothered with Dungeon Master talk on the internet.
