Forums - Sales - Torne, Kinect and Move sales reveald

Who says peripherals don't sell? Not Sony for sure! PlayStation 3's Torne DVR attachment sold 784,000 units last year (through January 2) according to data in a Media Create market report (passed along at this blog).

Torne was released in March of last year. The device connects to your PS3 to give the system digital video recording abilities with a speedy PS3-powered interface.

There were some early hints of success, with some news outlets reporting half a million units by October. Sony has been pushing the product heavily through advertisements, firmware updates and hardware bundles. The 784,000 figure includes bundle sales.

Of course, some may not consider Torne an actual peripheral as it doesn't really have much to do with games. Media Create also provided sales for two more traditional peripherals: Kinect and PlayStation Move. Kinect sold 90,000 units. Move sold 170,000 units. Both figures include bundles.

Media Create also reported sales of 97,442 units for Nintendo's red Mario 25th anniversary Wii system.

So Torne could be over a million units already?

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

PlayTv which is the same thing but for PAL regions sold over 200k in Australia alone, where PS3 hasnt even sold a million consoles. I would love to see complete numbers for it.

EDIT: It has sold 100k as of nov 1 2010 not 200k Link. Also sold 85k in one week in the UK. Link. Not sure is these are shipped numbers or sold but I assume shipped.

nevermind.

Kinect sold 90k in Japan?!

They all sold a lot more than I originally thought.

To be honest, Sony is stupid as shit, release HSG6, HST2, NiNoKuni,  RE4/CVX with a move bundle and you'll move more move units.

give me a DVBS Thorne and i'm all over it!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Both Kinect and Move sold well below average worldwide ratios which shows Japan doesn't really care about motion controls. At this point in time I'd say Wii sold mostly thanks to good Mario games it had and innovative controls had only small impact.

You're half right. Wii didn't sell just because of motion controls, but it didn't sell because of Mario either. Gamecube had Mario and that didn't help it. You could argue that it sold because of 2D Mario, but that didn't come out until 2009. It sold because it brought games back to basics, meaning simple to play, hard to master, fast paced arcade style games that cater to a mass audience.

I have the PlayTV (UK) which became redundant after the UK decided to use DVB-T2 instead of DVB-T mpeg2 HD that PlayTV supports. I think it does HD in some parts of Europe though.
