Why would they want that info?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

To see if any of the users are from the state of California. If someone from California is discussing these things, obviously they pirated games (no other reason for posting in a thread about these things - much like viewing the video...you had to have been pirating) and Geohot's case can then be heard in California.

Except they only wanted the youtube accounts to prove Geohot was distributing the keys. They don't care about those people and they certainly don't care about anyone on vgchartz.

...excactly what I was thinking.

last year a women was brutally beaten in my neighboor hood and had her purse stolen.  the only reason the guy got caught was because of a convience store security camera (caputured the two cuprits faces when they use the money from the stolen purse to purchase a candy bar).

i know people are going to come in here all afraid of "big brother" watching you but as far as i'm concerned there is more good than bad in the tracking of information.  i walk the streets feeling a bit better knowing those two are now in jail.

obviously, posting in a thread here on VGC and piracy and geohot's jailbreak is no where near as bad as beating up an innocent women.    however, in concept it's not that different of a story.  I'm fine with information about me being exposed to the limited audience that would need this information when that information will help find and procecute those that break the laws.
