Forums - Sales - PS3 passes Xbox360 in WW sales!!!! What?

it was an april fools joke -_-

That isn't a april fool.

That is active user base.

360 had so much RROD without use of garanty for a new console... so that is possible but not likely... the fact is 360 had a failure rate bigger than PS3.

I saw this all over google news...I'm not sure of the validity..Is it based on shipped, active user base, or does VG CHartz just not track outside Japan & NA well (That much is true). I can't forsee PS3 passing 360 for at least 1 1/2 more years. At least it is past 360 if you compare from launch haha!

PSN: Saugeen-Uwo     Feel free to add me (put Vg Chartz as MSG)!

Those numbers cannot possibly be sold, perhaps they are active user base as some have mentioned, but something just seems fishy about it.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

I guess people here not undertand the "active base" talk.

If I buy five 360 and two died or broke... I have just three 360 working... so my active base is THREE units of 360.

The point of article is 360 had more died/broke console than PS3 (because the RROD)... anything like:

- 1 in 10 PS3s died/broke.
- 2 in 10 360s died/broke.

Of course that count just if I the owner not made a warranty replacment.

doesnt really surprise me, one thing ive learn over the past year or so is that ps3 is undertracked and the 360 is overtracked.  the kinect gave microsoft a nice boost, but it wont save them.   its all about the games, and thats one thing sony has plenty of for the next year and a half.

Isn't Strategy Analytics Sony fanboy haven? Besides, they're clearly spouting nonsense since Wii's "active userbase" to sales ratio would be higher than both 360 and PS3 since they've always had a lower failrate.

wasn't it clearly stated last time someone posted this that it was shipped numbers but they added a quarter to ps3 shipped numbers and didn't to the 360 and wii numbers. OFC some of you will try and make up things like active userbase numbers. Currently noone is even able to accuratly track global sell through figures and you guys think this analyst group can accurate track active userbases???? Its just pathetically funny what some fanboys think.

MS are actually turning a substantial profit on their games' business.  How is it they need "saving"?

LOL you're clinging on to this so much. Lets ignore the fact 360 had a 3 yr warranty and PS3 had a 1 yr warranty ...

This report is also fabricated and made up by a fanboy website who claimed all sorts of random bullshit at the start of the gen, it kinda speaks volumes if anyone believe a word of it.

IF it happened already, what's so surprising about it? the PS3 sells all over the world, the 360 sales great in NA and has strong sales in Europe but not by much...in Asia the 360 is non-existent to put it kindly. If the PS3 isn't on top already, then it's only a matter of a few months, really. The tide has turned, the fate is decided, the 360 is gonna end THIRD this generation.

Does that mean MS is making less profit than say, Sony? Of course not! They've done incredibly well and surely at the end of its days the 360 will be more profitable than 2nd place PS3, not to mention the large market share (especially NA market share) MS has taken from the former dominant Sony.

That in itself makes the 360 , in my opinion, a neck-to-neck tie for 2nd place with the PS3 even if it doesn't end up having the 2nd best total worldwide market share. And the PS3 even if it ends up with the 2nd largest market share (for consoles, behind Wii this gen), it may end up not profiting as much but its saving graces have been many including the resurgance of an incredible gaming library the console didn't have for the better part of its first year and a half, the vast improved PSN network and all the added services and extras, not to mention the ever-improving PS3 hardware which from day one with blu-ray, hdmi, wifi, and later stuff like 3D and many other functionalities added via firmware,  has set itself apart from the competition value-wise and tech-wise.
