Forums - Nintendo - Hidden WiiWare gems!!

gumby, I think there are a lot of great WiiWare games, but most of them I would not consider "hidden gems", they are more the high profile titles. If you are interested just in WiiWare in general I'll go over all the games I have.

For recommended WiiWare games in general I own and recommend: LostWinds (1 and 2, my two favorite WiiWare games), Art of Balance, Flowerworks, Megaman 9 10, ExciteBike World Rally, Airport Mania, Rage of the Gladiator, Cave Story, NyxQuest. These are all really great games.

Other games I enjoyed but would be slower to recommend: Swords and Soldiers (fun, but eventually you just press the same button over and over), Sonic 4 (fun but too expensive), Strong Bad (fun if you like the website, but too expensive), Dive: Secret of Mendes (Fun, gets a little repetitive), Water Warfare (almost good enough to recommend, but if you are picky about FPS controls don't get this game), TV Show King (Fun if you like trivia and have people to play with, but get the sequel its cheaper and has online).

Did not enjoy: Final Fantasy Dark Lord, Frogger (fun, but can find a free flash version just as good), Bomberman Blast (most people like this, but I just never figured it out).

Cool! Thank you for all of your recommendations, and dis-recommendations! Will definitely look into Airport Mania, and I might consider the second Lost Winds - I enjoyed the first, but it was rather slow and light on content...

One of the things I seriously don't get about Nintendo is how for years they were always saying "playing is believing" yet it doesn't seem they actually put their money where their mouth is when it comes to demos..

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

I've got Hydrotilt (really nice execution), Art of Balance (all of Shinen have great graphics, and this one's got great multiplayer) and Dr. Mario (most played WW in my house). Others like And Yet It Moves, CaveStory, Max and the Magic Marker, NyxQuest, Sword&Soldiers, NightSky (not yet out on WW) and WorldOfGoo I got them on PC, so I really don't know how they are like in the Wii. From the demo's, Zombie Panic is one I wouldn't mind to look into at a later date; and also TV Show King 2 (though I've been burnt by trivia games on Wii before).

Future titles from WW I'm looking forward to? The European release of Airport Mania (had endless fun with both PC and iPhone, and multiplayer seems like a great plus). And whenever we get Line Attack Heroes!

EDIT: My thousand post!!! Let's add some spice into it. I really dispise the Bit.Trip games.

Yeah I did forget to mention the two Mega Mans were no doubt stellar.  I guess I didn't count them since I expected to get a quality title there.  And yes I will probably check out that last bit trip game Flux since it does look like a spin off of Beat.  I have heard numerous things about Cave Story, I'll have to wait till I get around to it but it's on my list.

If you have a friend and you don't mind having absolutely meaningless casual fun for like half an hour than I would pick up that pokemon game that came out on wiiware - really simple and shallow but has a sort of instant addictveness to it, but you'll be bored of it in a few days like hell.

I played the demo of Rage of the Gladiator and liked it. I downloaded the game but haven't had the time to play it, but I liked what I saw. If you like punchout you may want to give it a try.

I remember reading it supports motion plus! I wonder how that turned out.

It works pretty well. Plays very much like PunchOut!! more of a puzzle game than fighting, learning enemies pattern, knowing when to block and when to attack, that kinda thing. But with some RPG style level up trees and monster.

LISTEN TO THE FIRST WORLD PODCAST REAL GAMERS, REAL AWESOME

Lostwinds 2 is definitely better than 1, I would recommend that.

LIT is a fresh concept which was certainly very enjoyable 'til you get about halfway through, when it gets a bit tedious.

And Yet It Moves is definitely a pretty decent game.

Tiki Towers, for 500pts, ain't half bad. It bares a slight similarity (gameplay-wise) to World of Goo, but I got fedup after a while.

I would have liked Castlevania Rebirth more if it had a save system. I simply don't have the time anymore to finish a game in one sitting/playthrough.

I've also heard good things about Onslaught, FPS dev'd by Hudson...you can check the reviews.

It works, you have an extra punch, but honestly I think I prefer the classic style.

I agree with that... but as a demo..; dunno if the price is worth it considering that to me (EU) it's 50% of the price of games I can import from the UK...

Dam, they really went all the way with the old school thing.

Thanks :)
