sometimes the majority must suffer in-order for change to occur. and if they do what Im thinking they will, it will benefit consumers for a little bit. free content!

Your a fool and I don't think I'm going to talk to someone who is willing to exploit the innocent just so they can get some free games and some internet cred.

Its not about free games or internet cred. its about whats right. I have the right to modify my console, and help others be able to do so. Its like cell phones, they can be legally modified and jackbreak software is regularly available. What is the difference between a console and cell phone in terms of electronics? nothing, they both are specialized computers. So if i can modify my cell phone, I can modify my console. If the instructions to modify more cell phone is online, so should the instructions to modify my console.

This isn't a Civil War, this isn't even a national crisis, this is a bunch of hackers getting pissed off because they can't get what they want. Consumers are happy with what they've got and now the 'freedom fighters' have come along to ruin the services we already have and like.

You do not get to choose what the rights of millions of people are.

You do not have the right to fight for my rights.

You do not have the right to fight for your rights and act as if your special, knowing that it'll hurt the rights of millions to feel safe and use a good service that they agreed to.

You do have the right to hack your console, but you don't have the right to go on Sonys PSN services or buy any of Sonys games.

You do not have the right to pick and choose between what is right and wrong. Hackers do not make laws, they are meant to follow them.

You do not have the right to take advantage of the innocent bystanders of this situation, which includes developers, other publishers and consumers.

You do not represent me, you do not represent the majority, you do not represent freedom.

We are Consumers.

We were happy.

We do not forget

We do not put up with needless bullshit.

Piss off.

Again, change can only happen when people are willing to stand and fight for what they want. Whether its through the legal system like the class-action suit against Sony, GeoHotz's legal battle against Sony, or a cyber war.

You might not see the benefit, you might not think temporary interferance with what you want to do is right, but in the end things will become what it should because people are willing to stand and fight the only ways they know how to. Some take the "legal" means, others take the extreme route. Both can be effective.

It is very obvious that the general consumer like you will be pissed. Its natural, but you would also be pissed if the government or your ISP limited your access to the internet tomorrow. Or if the price of gas doubles because a foreign government refuses to ship oil to the states. Some would just be pissed but deal with it like the nice good little sheeple they are, others will try stand up to the change and fight it. Each market has is segmented into sheeple, extreme, and political mindsets. Sheeple takes up the majority, but the others are the ones willing to fight unjust change and the sheeple tells the ones fighting to shut up and mind their business when realistically they are ignoring what is happening and are to scared or ignorant to do anything.

So please, continue to bitch, complain, and yell that a small group is willing to fight for their rights. We will fight for our freedom of property rights similar to how the African American's fought for their civil rights. By voicing our opinions, battling the ones that hate us, and winning the battle for what is right for everyone no matter what anyone thinks.

So what gives you the right to speak for those people, or lobby that you want corporate crackdown on consumer bought hardware? These people are consumers, too. They bought their PS3, so do not treat them as anyone lower than yourself.

Anyone can say they represent the majority, but unless you can back those words up, it's nothing but hot air.

well...one could say why did the south have to succeed? just because they didn't like the laws being given down to them they could just do away with them, Licoln himself didn't want to abolish slavery at first, he just wanted to stop the growth of slavery(if that's what you're getting at) from spreading to any other part of the U.S. and it territories Though slavery was a huge part of it it wasn't the only why the U.S. had a civil war, cotton was a major business for both the north and south, the south would send there cotton to nothern factories where they produced clothing and other materials, both made enormous sums of money, a reason why there were some nothern states that ddn't want to abolish slavery

at the bolded: that's a very extreme and double sword way of looking at things, I mean look at 9/11, those extremist and did nothing but cause a huge hole in the hearts of all americans, that sort of thinking needs to be done away with and why the U.N was created, we just don't pick up arms(though this does still happen in the world) be we should atleast try to settle are differences and disagreement like in a court. not commit actions without carelessness because the backlash can be huge and innocent people are most likely to get the brunt of attack. war should be the last dire option(imo)

ahhhh...I'm sorry...didn't want to drag this like i said, i'm taking a history class this semester and we were going over the civil war the other day....this will be my last post...and again, thank you for sharing your side.

Truly Im enjoying this.

But, you have to take note on why 9/11 happened. It was entirely the USA's fault. We pushed our views onto the world. Mostly the middle east. We caused their hate because we stuck our noses to deep into someones territory. We instated many leaders in the middle east. Saddam, Bin Laden, etc, are all were funded by the USA to eliminate threats in an attempt to protect our ally Israel and ourselves. Which of course back fired completely in the end.

Now it could still have been prevented. Intel from the CIA stated it was possibly going to happen. No one paid any attention to the info and I guess caught off guard when everyone realized "hey, you screwed up". This has of course lead to our endless war in the middle east. This time, there is no pulling out like Vietnam.

You did not just compare this to the civil rights movement did you? Mother of God.

Back in the day I used to be one of those stoners hanging out 420 chans /i/ board. We were just hanging out and dicking around while messing with some people. Now its snowballed into some pathetic fantasy of freedom fighting. Geohot was just a guy who was looking for some e-cred and spread around his ps3 hack. Sony slapped him down. He isn't a martyr or anything else. Hes just a guy who called too much attention to himself.

And of course theres the simple fact that vastly different people associate themselves with anon, and the ones with any hacking skills are busy doing actual meaningful stuff with wikileaks and such. These are just a bunch of kids with babys first DDoS tools.

Darn, well hopefully that movie will be on Netflix then. lol

Let me ask you a question, if you don't mind. Where in all of this hacking nonsense does it seem appropriate to promote an almost respectable platform for your cause and then trash it just for the lulz? Hasn't this group not done that? Promote justice and then attack or invade something just for fun. I understand that the people are in the dark behind many activites that dictate their every lives, but we bring these issues to attention so that we may rectify the problem. Creating a DDoS attack against a large major corporation? What example is that setting? That companies cannot dictate how or what we do with their purchased products? Admirable. But that isn't the purpose of many other hackers who may rather exploit their products for other reasons. Reasons that I don't have to state for you to know what they are. An almost fruitless attempt as it is not a law nor it is a permanent solution. This group simply lives on the here and now. Never thinking about the future or the repercustions of their actions. As they stated, its just simply for the lulz.

Anonymous has always done it for the lulz. They wouldn't do this if they didn't enjoy it. But with the lulz comes with it the acceptable knowledge that they are standing up for something meaningful. Every attack they want to do it because they enjoy showing that you do not screw with the internet or civil liberties.

It sounds questionable, but I know people who generally love being in the military because they enjoy the action overseas. So, they joined the military for the lulz and do what they feel is right for their families and country.

Thoses that commit crimes of piracy can be charged with theft. But the overall majority actually have no intension of illegal actions, rather they want to develop for the platform. Make it more efficient for linux, and code new software to run on the Cell. If Sony would drop this lawsuit, all the medical research centers that bought PS3s as cheap super computers will be able to crack open the PS3 firmware and use them again as they bought them for, cheap super computers.

And I edited my last post, check the two links.

You can buy cheap computer for the price tag of ps3 and code whatever you want on it.

You disgust me, your making out as if your cause is just or your reactions are justified, they are not. How can you even compare your fight for your supposed 'rights' to the fight the African Americans had to go through. There are better things to fight for in this world and making sure you can run Linux is not one of them.

You are not a freedom fighter, your a fighter of your specific wants, consumers are fine with what they have, no one gives a shit if they can't run Linux on their PS3, if they can't hack and add a SNES emulator to their PS3 or if they can make MKV files work.

Hackers caused Linux to be taken out, hackers have caused PSN to go down, hackers have made piracy possible on the console, hackers are pushing Sony into releasing a completely closed system next generation, hackers are pushing more loop holes on to the consumers, just so they can feed their selfish needs. Your not fixing anything, everything Sony has done has been a reaction, they didn't initiate any of these problems and now the consumers are the ones suffering.

Once again, you do not fight for my rights or the majorities, you don't know better than us, your just fighting for yourselves and if anyone gets harmed in the encounter, then they are just necessary casualities to achieve your selfish goal.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of PS3 owners who use PSN are going to be pissed off that their service was taken offline, just because a few hackers wanted things their way. If they also felt that Sony was being the big bad world in this situation, then they would have reacted. Sony has done nothing to them, so they have no need to freak out about something this silly, on the other hand though, hackers have taken down their service. Sony does nothing bad, hackers attack the consumers right to go on PSN, I wonder which side they'd choose.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I have a movie that would tell you the entire story, I just need to find it >.> forget title.

Thank you for the links. I have some reading to get to.

Freedom is hard to defend without knowing how to defend it, and even then its still pretty difficult. The actions of Anonymous are laudable to a certain extent as that their purpose for most of their actions are derived from a just cause. It always baffles me as the good that this hacking group could do is constrained to small mostly minor issues. For example, Anon vs. Westboro Baptist Church. A good cause indeed but one without much lasting effect. Again, the here and now. I can sympathize with Anon as I do see myself as somewhat of a freedom fighter. In fact, I'm writing a fictional novel about a young, freedom fighter. But that is as little as we have in common. Our tacics differ greatly. Anon's tactics is a more drastic approach but, to be quite honest, lacks direction. If I were to become the leader of Anon, if there is such a thing, I would use my influence to expose companies, corporations, lobbyiest, certain politicians, and legislation that requires improvement. For example, find the information that could be used by WikiLeaks. Violent? No. More morally sound? Yes. Effective? O' hell ya.
