It's fundamentally a point and click game, but you control your character on screen as well.  Each level is like a puzzle and you will make mistakes and die (or forfeit) a lot.  But learning what to do and in what order is part of the appeal, and there are ways to avoid having to do the entire level over again, so that you can start again right at the spot you made the mistake.

Normally I'd say to just check it out on Youtube, but I recommend against that in this case, since watching the game being played would result in spoilers.  Right now it's about $35 on Amazon brand new but if you can possibly find it used somewhere for about $20 I'd say pick it up.  Also it's a very Japanese-style game, which I love, but that might not be for everyone.

I'm going to have to come down on the side that would recommend not buying this game.  It starts out as a damn good point and click puzzle game, but the end is terrible.  In the last four levels of the game, Zack and Wiki morphs from a puzzle game into an action game with really poor controls.
