What about my rights as a consumer to be able to use a service that fecktards with no jobs spend their lives trying to ruin. Fuck Anon! Fuck them in the arse until they get hemorrhoids that then burst and get infected and they need rectalplasties.

What about all the people that paid $600 to use Other OS on their system only for Sony to take out the feature for the sole purpose of their own greed?

their own greed, your joking right

*facepalm* because your not

There is a court case about Sony removing Linux to save costs on licensing and not because of security reasons, so no he isn't joking.

how much money do you think Sony is saving on removing other os? Fucking bucket loads I'd bet, I mean I'd wager they put the feature in JUST so they could remove it to save SOO much money, I mean it's not like they launched the damn ps3 for 250 dollars less than what it's worth, they have been profiting off of the ps3 this entire time, and removed other os.....just to fuck with people and of course save SOOO much fucking money, greedy bastards, who are they to modify shit THEY FUCKING OWN.

I could go forever.....and you still wouldn't get it -_-

You act as if getting angry makes your argument stronger.

Point is simple. You are supporting the lose of rights for security in online video games. I understand your argument just well, however I also know that company will continually create fixes to deal with future online issues.

However, you can't so easily create a fix for your lost rights.

Go ahead and think that I am the one not understanding things though. At least I know I am on my side and not on the side of corporation for the sole interest of my video games, which aren't going to suddenly vanish.

yeah like I said to another poster, you HOPE is more like it.

Because benieth things you support you know as well as I that it takes just ONE of these fucking pieces of shit to find something big that can bring it all crumbling down, and they'll do it to because unlike the people at Sony who are heavily invested in this business these asshole aren't and couldn't care less.

at least with Sony I know the only people that would get screwed over buy this are arrogant naive assholes who will NEVER put in an eighth of the amount of investment Sony has in these products, where's gehots game console huh? where anno's online gaming network huh? thesehackers won't do shit in providing their own but they'll screw everyone's else up though.

you think Sony is in this for the sole purpose of fucking over their consumer? that if Sony wins this they will do nothing but make products just to fuck over the people who buy them??? You do know without you the consumer there would be no Sony right

blows my mind this shit, people wouldn't fucking hesitate to post the massive losses Sony has occurred this gen, omg omg 5 plus billionz lost Sony are n teh RED!!! but when they make a decision to cut a feature to save cost which not only makes sense but makes PERFECT  sense it's OMG omg $ony are GREEDY, they cut features to line their own pockets.

what a joke, I pity all of you in here supporting these assholes, who couldn't give two shits about you, against the very company who MADE, invested, and LOST heavily in the very console your currently  playing. So they made a tough choice to cut a feature few were using to save on the mass money pit that is the ps3, boo  hoo, you people think Sony is making money off this?? probably hurt them more than you, (just look at what the ps3 was suppose to be and see what I mean).

anyway, the naivety and ignorance ASTOUNDS me in this thread.

And the best is that I'm still waiting to know how removing other/os cot cost from Sony, it isn't a mechanism or moving parts, is just the possibility to instal other/os how much did this cost to Sony (as the systems were already sold)?

Obviously OtherOS continued to update itself to be compatible with the new firmwares... oh wait, not it didn't -_-

They had a team working on it to make sure it was compatible.

And everyone is just quoting what Sony is saying...

Well that and word was that IBM was rather pissed at Sony after the Airforce decided to use PS3's for clustering.

Word is, they were afriad a lot of people were going to use those instead of Cell Servers.

Goes into GREAT detail about the benefits of removing other OS and why Sony's reasons were a fabrication.

For the part your talking about....

"Sony was quite diligent about testing, and with each new rev of the GameOS (which acts as the hypervisor for Linux) there was a battery of tests. Often the GameOS had to be modified to support things which otherwise broke in Linux, so it is not a one-way street. GameOS affects Linux, and Linux affects GameOS. If a component on the mobo changed, the hypervisor code would change to support the new component, and then the testing starts again. While I am not aware of a time when the GameOS was modified to correct something we discovered to be broken in Linux, I can state that with nearly every third release of updated GameOS versions, something broke in Linux for which we compensated on our end, often with the assistance of Geoff [Levand] (who was great to work with, BTW)."

So since we techinically don't own our PS3s does this mean I get my $900 back that I have spent on the (2) consoles?

If not, then do I at least get back $450 since I own only half of it?

I also wonder why people think that you do not have the right to do whatever the hell you wish your PS3 whether it be hardware or software.

If they decided that it is perfectly within my rights to do so with my smartphone then what makes my PS3 any different?

It voids your warranty and you could be banned from PSN, alright. Don't knock my door in though.

Exactly, Right on target.

Thanks... i live in Brazil, i have freedom of speech and because of hacking community we don't have official support and our games cost 2,5x more than on USA... now i think i should thanks pirating and hacking to stand to my rights.

Alright, so me and other gamers might end up without the PSN because some group decides that Sony infringes on their rights?

To all you consumer rights people on here, how does that help me and the other millions of consumers rights who buy a PS3 to play games?

That's kinda like asking how it helps people who want to get an education, when a building gets shut down because of a protest.

The answer?  Stop thinking so short term.

So I'm thinking short term because I can't see how this will help the majority of PS3 owners in any way? Assuming this group gets whatever they want ( I assume Linux and freedom to hack their PS3s), thats a small minority of PS3 Gamers.

A)  A minorities rights are worth a damn because they inconveince the majority.

Seriously, this is the arguement you want to go with.

B) It goes on much past that however, since the legal arguement sony has applied is they can literally do anything they want to your PS3 to make you buy a new one.

Including removing things like Blu-ray playback or intentionally brick yours for no reason if they feel like it.

According to Sony, it's perfectly legal for them to brick out of warranty consoles at will, randomly for whatever reason.  If you can't see why that should be illegal... well ok.

I don't know what to say.

Most of them have not done any research on the situation. If Sony wins the Geohot case all the Sony products you bought will still be owned by them and they can do as they please with it. Thats the reality of the situation and it seems people could not be bothered.

Where in the process Sony justified that they own the products GeoHotz bought and therefore they can get them back anytime they want??

It's more like, "we designed it, he is giving secrets that enable people to do malicious thing we want him to stop".

Enlightnen me own how Sony winning about not hacking their device equals they owning mine PS3?

Sony is sueing him for circumventing and hacking into his own PS3.   This has already been covered in the thread, via shown court documents.

Exactly... and this doesn't equal Sony owns my console, just means that I can't do with it things that can harm others.

Hacking into your own PS3 doesn't hurt others?

And yes... it DOES say you don't own your console.

If sony didn't claim this, it couldn't pursue this lawsuit.

Some people seem to believe that just because you have something in your hands means you own it.

To me owning something means I can do whatever I wish to do with it, even modding the hardware or software.

Like when someone do a comparation with owning and moding your house can be demed illegal by court? try again.

Owww no i see... so greed sony should still be losing money to support something because you bought a console that they were already losing money... makes a lot of sense, now go ask microsoft to support Direct X 11 on DOS and Windows 3.11

That has nothing to do with hacking.... and everything to do with the GIANT import tax on foreign goods in brazil.

It's also why piracy is so high.

I mean... how old are you that you don't know that?

Owwww I see, so Sony doesn't control governments to make their decisions favour them??? I though people were saying that you can't win against Sony because they own the judicial with their deep pockets...

So in reality governments act on their own?? Interesting toughs, and are governments that makes law not Sony. If Sony can use the judicial system so can you, go there and sue Sony in grounds that it's illegal to take of other/os or sue GeoHotz, maybe you win.

And I'm really happu by his assumption that liberty of speech = 1st world country (a classification that is 10 to 20 years passed)... it's like american are the blessed super citizen.

Uhh... what?

You need to take a deep breath, calm down, realize your kinda flaming and in general, acting really illogical.   Your profile says your 26... but your making that pretty hard to believe... espiecally with Ignorance on your own countries economic policies and for why shit is so expensive in brazil.  I mean heck, you just raised tarriffs even more on various stuff recently.

Also, Sony is being sued for removing Other OS.  In a case they might lose specifically because they are argueing two completely contradictory things in that case and the Geohotz case.

And about people complain about taking of Other/OS support going against the benefits to health and militar research... Did they needed to upgrade their firmware??? I don't think so, those PS3 weren't used to play games... I didn't saw any of the Supercomputer users complaining about the removal of other/OS just people that think homebrew is a civil right even if it make pirating rampant.

And the Dreamcast comparison is really good, put the console that bankrupted and took Sega from console development to say piracy don't harm... nice one.
