Forums - Gaming - Against The Grain: The Wii's return to grace

I really can't believe people are saying such outlandish things, "we've never seen a market leader flater!" uh yeah, there were times in the PS1 and PS2 line up where it was just dreadful, know what kept one summer from having zero games to play?  MARS ATTACKS... you know the game that bombed this gen... and well every single time it released after the first... wanna know why the first sold decent enough to warrent a new one?  Cause it released when there was nothing else halfway decent to buy on the PS2.

Seriously people give too much credit to past generations and too much credit to PS3 and 360 games, just because a corporation hypes a game doesn't mean that game is anything more than mediocre, it's just in past generations mediocre games weren't hyped at all and garnered no attention, but they've realized some segments of gamers will go out of their way to buy terrible games if they're marketed to... and they don't mind doing this when it costs them so much more to break even now.

Whole arguments seems to just be one of semantics.  non-Nintendo fans denote the Wii as fallen from grace because they define it's period of "grace" as when the weekly sales were so high 50% market share seemed inevitable and there were some even claiming that the Wii would get up to 200m sales total and it seemed like maybe it could happen.

Wii fans define grace as just "doing better than its competitors without the same level of 3rd party support".  Personally I think that's a real weak definition for "grace" but then I fall into the first group I mentioned.

...

@conegamer  why are you and others so convinced that Last Story is coming stateside this year??? thats speculation and IMO shouldnt be used in an upcoming Wii game list. Xenoblade is another story we have confirmation on that. Tales of Grace??? For all we know that could either be PS3/Wii or PS3 only or hell could just be on 360

@maxwellgt2000  sounds like your still mad because PS1&2 dominated so soundly. out of curiosity when was the PS1 and 2 lineup bad??? Only time i could think of is when they lauchned. 3rd parties supplied them great games all year round for years. cant say that for the Ninty consoles (NES, SNES notwithstanding, mayve GC)

I think you're spot on

Let's not forget, as Maxwell said,it wasn't all rosy for the PS1/2 either. Sure, it was selling awesomely at one time, but it was never gonna last. 2012/2013 seem most likely to be the Wii2 launch.

Personally, I think the Wii has had some amazing games this gen. But, well, haters gonna hate

TLS is almost guaranteed. After Xenoblade, which sold worse, was a smaller game and had less importance in the grand scheme of things, it's almost certain. Maybe Q1 next year

And why only localise one of the versions of ToG? Both have the same potential and are pretty much finished. IF only one version was coming, we'd know which by now

Almost guaranteed to come over at some point, but not this year.  And ToG isn't even almost guaranteed to come over at all on the Wii let alone this year.  Just smacks of padding a list you think is too weak so you add some wishes instead of sticking to just what's confirmed to release this year.

...

^^^^^ pretty much what i was getting at, lets stick to games we know are coming. If the TLS does come i doubt it will be this year. the last time anyone said anything about it it was "no plans to localize right now" doesnt inspire confindence and some people give Namco/Bandai too much credit, i would be shocked if it came to PS3 exclusively in the US id be even more shocked if it was PS360

We'll see. I think ToG could well be an E3 Surpirse...

Remember, last year we didn't know DKCR, Epic Yarn, Goldeneye, Wii Party etc. So it's not like it won't have any games this year. They just come out later

@conegamer i hope ToG is a surprise for all our sakes. DKCR and Kirby are all Ninty games they always pull this shite about putting their best stuff at the tail end of the year. We knew about GE prior to E3 and Wii Party is another Ninty title (not a good one IMHO) which is kind of my point we can only go by what we know right NOW. and what i know right now, im not impressed with the line up Zelda is lterally the only game for Wii i care about this year
