Forums - General - Does anyone just have a regular home phone anymore?

We do, but my parents have been talking about getting rid of it for months upon months now because it is just a waste.  We've never even had long distance on the plan, we always bought minutes at the store for this, and now with cell phones, we pretty much use it to answer people calling us.  And 90% of the people calling us are fucking surveys or politicians, I would die for there to be a no call list that includes those things, and not just advertisers.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

So,what's the advanced cellphone, going to kill next?

Nintendo.

Given your post history, I don't know if you're joking... but I actually agree. I mean, cell phones will eventually kill handheld consoles... but the PSP/NGP product lines compose only a small part of Sony (not that Sony aren't dying on their feet, anyway... but, that's for another thread), while the DS is half of Nintendo's product range... and probably constitutes for over half of their profits.

The death of the handheld, and the increased competition in the home consoles will mean that Nintendo will either need to evolve, or will be the next Sega, by the time the decade's out.

Yes. It's really dumb NOT to have a landline. They don't need electricity, so when a natural disaster strikes they still work, while the other ones end up dead and useless.

What natural disaster is going to take the grid out, but not the telephone network?

As for the O/P, many people still have a landline for Internet connections... BT offer up to 20mb/s on some landline networks (granted, upgrades need to be made to the network... my home town can only receieve 8mb/s through landline), for people who do not live in cable areas (cable is not as widely available in the UK as it is in the US, due to consumers preferring their television services provided through satellite).

Hurricanes in miami, tornadoes in ATL, after an earthquake in LA we had no power but phone was working fine. Simply by being on different grids it increases the chance of it working since there is no dependency. That's why everyoe should have a landline phone, that doesn't require to be plugged in. It is in fact much more common for power to go out than your phone line.

No they won't. PC's which have always been more powerful and technically could have the same controls still never stopped the annual growth of home consoles.

As such phones with the lower gaming centric technology and lack of real controls will never stop the annual growth of portable consoles.

Completely different markets with different consumer needs and expectations.
