Forums - Nintendo - 3DS has the wow factor for gamers and non gamers (even Nintendo haters)

Iv read somewhere 3rd part publisher's arn't doing so well.

That might be why?

I would say so. They are going after just one audience (those that like games that happen to have highly detailed graphics*), and by a route of increasingly expensive games. They try to justify it with a few hit games ("Look at Call of Duty or Gears of War"), but those games are the exceptions, and for some companies, their hits don't make up for their flops and they still lose money.

* I phrased it that way because the companies seem to assume those gamers like graphics, but that could be correlation, not causation.

So the 3DS is just Nintendo trying to find a solution to its ongoing 3rd party problem.

We should all hope it works unless you hate Nintendo

If it gets support for the Wii, that would be nice. If the third parties don't support it, then I'm still not supporting them.

It's not for them refusing to support the Wii alone, it's that the public supports the Wii, and the third parties are deciding they get to chose for the public. History shows the patron decides the art, not the artist.

I agree; the 3D is quite nice, even if the fidelity is lost when even slightly off center.

The genius move regarding the 3D is the ability to not only turn it off at any time, but being able to adjust it.  I just can't enjoy Pilotwings with the 3D turned all the way up.  My eyes readjusting from focus on the background to things up close and back again is very disorienting to me and feels uncomfortable.  However just turning it up about 1/4 to 1/2 of the way looks perfect; it's 3D and my eyes can focus on everything perfectly.

This goes a long way in making the system accessible to everyone.

I'd say that's more them assuming the motion controls were the key to the Wii's success. But assuming that motion plut more graphics will be the best of both worlds, without understanding the actual keys to success of either kind.

Well it's got some interested, I don't deny that. Just that sales should have been the reason to support the system, not tech gimmicks. The latter shows they still think they know better than the mainstream over what makes a great game.
