Forums - Sales - The importance of the DLC's. EA wants my money.

I just wait these days if a games good enough then it will get a complete edition eventually. i got Dragon Age ultimate edition yesterday, which is Origins, Awakening and all 7 DLC missions for £18, i bet if i went on psn the 7 dlc would be more than £18 and i know for sure awakening is at least twice what i paid if you download.

DLC just leads to abuse. All the problems surrounding DLC could be solved by forbidding to charge for it.

This is exactly what I think.
I made a thread about my concern about this topic, but people showed very supportive of the DLC business model.

I can't believe we found ourselves speaking of paid dlc before the games even are out. That's just very abusive. I rather pay a 80 dollars price with full access to all the dlc they'll release in the future and there you go. Companies should build a name for themselves if they want us to pay more money.

EA is leading that way, which is bad news for me because they publish some of my favourite franchises.

No that's not true. There are DLCs which are worth the money like for example GTA IV big DLCs or Valkyria Chronicles pack which added whole mini-campaign for Selvaria but sadly they are usually exception among tons of lazy effort money grabs.

But when horse armor and lazy bioware 90 minut per 8$ sidemissions sell well why would anyone put effort.

I think it all depends on what the DLC has to offer and price(which in most cases is a matter of opinion)

for example, no way in hell would I pay $10-$15(maybe even more) for something like capcoms' street fighter IV costumes sets when they do nothing to enhance the game(from a gameplay perspective)

but for games like ME2 where the DlC adds much more content to the game without taking away from the game itself; like in the OP's case where he a actually had to buy the DLC to play the game in its entirety.

Rock band: for $60 dollars i get more than 60 sounds making it less than what I would have paid via itunes all of the awesomeness that is rockband the game.  with that i have hundreds of options to expand my experience and customize it to the music i personally like.

little big planet: comes with tons of levels and costumes and access to literally millions more from the community.  but for "hardcore" lbp lovers like myself, the extra content i can buy is really appreciated.

don't get me wrong, for every example of dlc done right i can come up with you can probably come up with an appropriate counter example.  but honestly -- you don't have to limit yourself to dlc to make these arguments.  even before dlc existed some games had an amazing amount of content while others did not.

it's up to the consumer to decide how much is enough to warrent the price tag.  i know nothing about the specifics of the tiger woods game from the OP but he probably should have done his research before buying.  and if he feels burned he should do exactly as he stated and not buy the next release or any of the dlc.  if EA doesn't make money on these practises they will change.

I pretty much hate the idea of DLC.  Like others have said most of the DLC is way overpriced.  There is no way in hell I am paying $15 for 4 maps.  The Wii version of Black Ops still hasn't gotten the 1st map pack but I don't even care.  I'd be happy if they didn't.  CoD map packs should be 5-7 at the most if they are only bringing 3-4 maps each map pack.  Telling people about DLC before the game is released is pure stupidity.  It is like telling fans, hey we could have put this in the original game but you can buy it a month later for 10-15 dollars extra.  We went from games being released buggy and needing patched right away (making the end user the beta tester) to releasing incomplete games that require more money to be spent.  I will hold my head in shame the day Nintendo starts releasing DLC that you have to pay for.

Oh wah wah. If you don't want to pay for the extra content, you don't have to do it. Simple enough?

dlc is fine if and only if it is additional content that doesn't need to be in game,  as in bonus content

the opening is just sad.  i would be pissed.  so waht you go to career mode basically and start playing the pga tour, which is teh main point of the game.  and halfway through they say, sorry you need to buy the rest of the courses?  that f*ng bull

imagine if your playing a story based game and halfway thruogh the story they go "hey sorry, to contineu you need to purchase these dlc's"  that is no acceptable and EA should be sued for what they did in tiger woods
