wow if it can hold close to the amount of space as a blueray 360 owners can get more potential games well in a sense.

According to Eurogamer it adds an 1GB storage which is alot to a developer

Cant be that much if some devs can max a blu ray disk (in know there are alot fo reaons for that lol) :P

Maybe devs can take notes from Crytek, Bungie and start using realtime cutscenes instead of CGI.

Yeah but cgi looks so gooooood xD

They may look good, but they're not really worth it I think.

I'm much more impressed when the cut-scenes look bad ass using the real time engine, than when everything is pre-rendered or CGI.  The Metal Gear Solid series comes to mind.

Id rather ff13's cgi cutscenes over any ingane ones from any game :P

Yeah i know my spelling sucks but im dysgraphic so live with it :3

1 GB isn't that much but I guess everything helps. They should have done this prior to GTA 4 release though.

Finally. Someone gets it.

GTA IV would have been a much bigger, expansive game if it was a PS3 exclusive.

so this is not an improve for its software usage but more like a protection purpose... =_=

just go blu-ray and be happy. dont nerf the future MS....

CPU: Ryzen 9950X3D
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 PRO

Come on guys use common sense. Of course its gonna be a firmware update.

They won't. The next console will have Blu-ray or whatever is the dominant format at the time of release, obviously not DVD again.

Saying a game or movie "filled up a disc" is a bit of misnomer.  You're always going to try to use all the space you have, it just means using less compression.  The question is are you going to lose any quality by using more compression.  Take an image file for example.  A 1024x1024 uncompressed image is going to be about 4mb.  If I go to save out that same file as a jpg at the highest setting in Photoshop (setting 12) it already drops to about 800k (varies depending on the image), but if I drop the quality down to about 9 the same 4meg file is only about 200k and you're really not going to see any difference in quality.

If you didn't have to compress it though, because you have the room and your engine will handle it, then why would you waste the time?  Just let the images be 4megs and save yourself the time.

It's the same thing with movies, sure ANY movie could be encoded to take up the entire 50gigs of a Blu-ray disc but the law of diminishing returns means that the same movie encoded to take up 10gigs might look almost no different.  The more compression though, the longer it takes to encode.  So it's the same tradeoff.

I think 15 percent more is what I heard. I think that is a lot based of some of these massive size games like Fallout New Vegas and Dragon Age. I mean they put a lot on that disc. I wonder if there is a way they can tell us if that extra space would of cut a disc off of Star Ocean and Final Fantasy XIII

New security measures, good, good!
