????????????????????????????

Both are first party. LBP is owned by Sony and made by Media molecule which is owned by Sony.

inFamous is owned by Sony and made by Sucker Punch who are second party, but infamous can't be published on any other platform(unless Sony wants it) because the IP is owned by Sony.

That makes it a first party game. Something like heavy rain is not first party strictly but infamous is. Sony can easily hire another developer(a first party developer) to develop the game, but they have more faith in Sucker Punch.

I have always counted first party as games made by first party studios. Neither Media Molecule or Sucker Punch were first party at the time of those games specific releases

That doesn't make a game second party or third party. A first party game is owned by Sony, and whoever is hired to make it is unimportant.

So LBP is now a third party game because ?

First party:

Of a video game, developed and published by company responsible for the platform on which it is released (or its internal developers), as opposed to third-party; Originating from such a video game
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/first-party

Is it developed by Sony? Yes, because they paid for the development. And the IP is owned by them as well.

Is it published by Sony? Yes.

Your definition is strictly yours, but LBP & inFAMOUS are very much 1st Party titles.

I mean, by your definition, Halo & PGR aren't 1st party either.....which we know isn't the case.

Since neither Halo Reach or PGR were made by first party devs they aren't first party.

Every Halo game made while Bungie the studio was owned by Microsoft is 1st party, any made with Bungie in the free and clear is 2nd party.  Similar to how Demon's Souls is a Sony owned IP made by a 3rd party developer making it a 2nd party game.

lol, hasn't wiki already proven wrong in this thread once already? Are you in college or uni? The first thing you learn is that Wiki is a complete waste of time

And going by your definition Alan Wake and Too Human are first party as well. Since MS paid for the development of them... Which they are most certainly not

There's either 3rd Party or 1st Party, there is no "2nd party IP". There's 2nd Party devs (which is even stretching the definition), but there aren't 2nd Party IPs.

If you have something showing me otherwise, I'd love to see it.

I think... I will bring up a quote that fits perfectly here.

If we are comparing the first party library from Nintendo and Sony it is only fair to compare their first party offerings. Games made by 2nd party devs are not 1st party, so shouldn't be counted in a comparison like this

Well, find a better source then. There is no mention of second party anywhere except for wikipedia, and third party is defined completely opposite.

Also MS doesn't even own Alan Wake so what's the point? How can something be first party if they don't own it? Whereas infamous and LBP are owned by Sony, and Sony can hire other developers to make the game ex. PS Move heroes, its a first party title developed by a first party developer, but it has characters that were in sly cooper and ratchet and clank. Both not developed by first party, but owned by Sony. If Sony has control over something then its pretty much first party.

MS doesn't have control over Alan Wake or too human. There's a difference.

Also who developed it is very difficult to say because when we are talking Sony we are talking worldwide studios. Infamous 2, and LBP 2 are both helped by the God of War team and Naughty Dog team, and these guys have been working together for a long time. Demon's Souls actually has partial credit given to SCE Japan studios along with From Software, so its not exactly a second party game. Not a first party game either.

Going by your two definitions that you quoted from Wiki, Alan Wake and Too Human are first party. Since they were 'developed'(your words) by the platform holder.

But on a more realistic scale, both Media Molecule and Suckerpunch are(or were, at least) 3rd party devs at the time of their games respective releases

Don't get me wrong, they are first party IPs, but LBP(1) and inFamous are most certainly not 1st party games

An IP owned by Sony should count in a topic like this. It's their IP, they can do want they want with it, so it should count as it IS 1st Party (since again, 2nd Party games/IPs don't exist). An IP is either owned by a 3rd party, independent company, or a 1st Party manufacturer (there is no in between in regards to the property). That's not strictly my definition, it's (for the most part) common knowledge.

You not wanting to include LBP or inFAMOUS is strictly on you, but it doesn't make them any less internal properties.

Yes, the IP is owned by Sony. But the games weren't developed by Sony. So that makes them 3rd party games, published by a first party.

Despite my hating of Wikipedia the link that the other poster posted even proves my point.
