Forums - Sales - For Those Who Were Worried About UC's sales.... 12/22 Retail Observations

don't-

I took my little bro out christmas shopping for my Mom and I hit up half a dozen stores and checked out their videogames sections(I thought it would be interesting on the Busiest shopping day of the Year, from 11-3 I could barely find any parking spots anywhere!)

At Best Buy they are now sold out of UC(referring back to topic), me and the worker(he actually knew a good bit about videogames) had a good chat(about VG sales) and he seemed unbiased(own all 3 systems and a DS).

I asked him which System's games very selling the best and he pointed over to the decimated Wii games section and then added the DS was almost as wacked... this is the same BB I covered in my long Post yester so I won't describe it more except that they did not get a new shipment in and were out of at least 35% of all Wii games. That "decent" supply of SMG had dwindled down to 4 in 24 hours. The worker told me that they were smoked from the large shipment of Wii's on sunday but were at full stock on Thursday morning before the weekend rush. And one thing that made me VERY happy was that he said ALL RE games went FAST he said they had about 35 copies of RE:UC on Thurday and then he pointed to 5 empty slots at the end and said he beleived it was the Wii zapper selling it so well, People are buying "just" so they can use their Zapper w/ it... I expect this game to have LEGS, especially when Word of Mouth spreads about the awsome Co-op.

I mentioned in my post yesterday that Lego Star Wars had a healthy stock, today it was 50% lower than it was yesterday. Z&W now had 5 games in its slot(it was down to 0). Mario Party 8 had about 15-20. He said M&S went SUPER fast, and after readin Shams impression I now know why. He said a ton of people were asking about MP:DS.. which brings me to a rabit trail...

I believe MP:DS is being undertracked in the US or Nintendo was dumb and forgot to ship the game. I talk to a target worker(a guy I knew from my church) and he said the same thing, and that he personally wanted the game and had been looking everywhere for it. He said one day he say it in stock he said they had about 20 but he did not have his debit card and when he came back the next day to get it, it was gone, and he had not seen it anywhere  since. Back to topic-

He told me that they had about 50 SMG's on Wednesday night(thursday morn) and now it had dwindled to one slot. And as I type this now they may be gone.

When then had a little discussion about RE4 and I basically told him it was fricken awsome, and now he is gonna buy it for himself(when it is in stock). I also told him that if people were looking for a good FPS game for the Wii he should point them to MoHH2, I explained how they got the controls right(I also told him to say MP3). When we were talking a man Walked up us with MP3 and Zelda: TP in his hands he said "Okay, which one should I get for my 11 year old son" I told him that Zelda was a better game but MP was awsome also, I said if his son like faster paced games then he should get MP. I asked him if he had played any Zelda, and he said he had OoT back in the day and he loved it- I told him TP was created in the same vein as OoT it was just bigger longer and better(OoT was better for its time.. I understand that) Once he found out it was alot like OoT he chose Zelda, and I joked that he should get both- he laughed and said probably, but after WE (I love dads who buy for themselves and their sons... I know I will be like that ; p) beat it.

I specifically asked him how PS3 and 360 games were selling, and he said PS3 was going slow and that Uncharted was not selling NEARLY as well as they thought it would, he said beside what they had on the floor they had a bunch in the back. He said certain 360 games were selling steadily including Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Bioshock. He said that AC for both PS3 and 360 were selling terribly and they had boxes in the back full of them. ( I am guessing after the great start they decided to stock up)

Today I went to TRU, Gamespot 2x, Best Buy 2x, Sears, Target, WalMart, and CC pretty much the same story everywhere NO DS's, no Wii's, TONS of 40gb PS3's, alot of 80gigs, alot of Arcades, and a few elite, and a few pro's. PSP's were hit or miss... no where had more than 9, but everywhere had at least 2(cept Sears, Do they get them?). 360 software was selling good, PS3 selling so-so, Wii and DS were wiped out as a whole(CC seemed to be the most balanced as in Wii sold same as 360) About 50 people asked about the Wii today, DS quite a few askers too... TRU was by far the most crazy I was in there at about 1 and it was Wall to Wall with people. Also forgot mention that Target got a shipment last night. Today they had about 50 SMG's and 25 M&S's- I wonder if they will make it to Xmas : ). The Zappers a BB were go, Target had 1(I was like WTF! Where did that come from) No Wii Remote's anywhere, BUT Target had about 10 Wiiplays from last nights shipment so some people were buying that to get a remote(even though they already had it) Nunchuks were hit or miss, most stores had none a couple had a few.

I am going to do a one more scouting report on CMAS Eve, then I will retire until next year, well cept maybe a few big launches(SSBB, WiiFit, MKWii)

I will probably remember things later and will post them in the thread as they come back to me.

Accidently posted, didn't want to bump this but I might as well say my opinion now.

You spend too much time researching things like this. Looking at the charts should be enough, but it seems like you get some kind of "high" over seeing your favourite things selling well. Possibly more then actually playing.

There's nothing wrong with being an enthusiast. I would have used a different title - this is about far more than UC - but I see no problem with a gamer taking an interest in the business side of the hobby, just as movie fans discuss which theaters were packed on Friday, and which were empty. And while his single anecdote doesn't come close to having statistical significance, the more people that share, the more complete the picture will be.

I gave a pretty decent picture of the VG shopping scene in western Orlando... And BTW I was already out shopping with my bro, not sure if you caught that...

I am a senior finance major, and will be going on further in education in Economics, eventually I will be doing this for a living just on a macro economic scale(and prb not with Videogames).

I am on Cmas break and my parents moved during the semester so I know like no one, don't have a job because no one wants to hire for 3 weeks and my GF is 800 miles away... I really have nothing better to do.... I could be like others and sit around watching TV on there Fat asses.

^TY misterd for the backup, and the reason I especially pointed out UC is because there was a thread earlier saying it was not doing good.

Yes, but a few retailers in your area is pretty meaningless. You can see the charts to get a better idea of how everything is doing.

Especially considering every non-wii game was supposedly not selling when they are still high on the charts.

I've got pictures so you all don't think I am BSing about the crazy Wii sales- I will enter them into the original message in a little while.

@Habfan

If you don't care why are you posting on these forums? You said the charts were enough... so why don't you just read them and leave? or maybe you like all this too... : p

I may be wrong, but I am sure some people enjoy reading personal expericance ranther than looking at a bunch of numbers. I like the number too, but I also like to know how we got those numbers.

I told you, I am posting because I accidently posted a blank message, so I might as well speak my opinion. Then you responded to me, so I defended myself.

Anyway, good luck with your adventures of seeing how video games are selling in your area, it is certainly much more accurate than real charts

I think you have way too much time on your hands.....you should actually play games instead of driving around looking at how stacked or empty each store is.
