Forums - Nintendo - 3DS/DS game packaging comparison

My copy of SSFIV3D arrived today (unfortunately the same can't  be said of my 3DS, so I can't play it).  As many of you won't have one or any games for one yet, I thought you might be interested in what 3DS games packaging looks like compared to the ones for DS games.

as you see, the height and width of the boxes are pretty much exactly the same.  One  interesting point of comparison is that the platform logo thingy is on the right hand side of the 3DS boxart, compared to the left for the DS.

However, the 3DS box is considerably less deep than that of the DS game.  The NoE coloured triangle is also on the opposite side than on DS, Wii, GBA and GC games.  SSFIV3D also has a small picture of Ryu and Capcom's logo on it, I don't know wheter a picture and published are on every 3DS game as this is the only one I have so far.

On this photo, you can see the more environmentally friendly packaging used in 3DS games.

your spirit tracks case looks weird. is that the european box?

also the ds box is clear for you too?  pretty sure mine are white like the wii game boxes

couldn't really care about boxes though anyway, only thing i hope is that the ocarina of time 3D has a gold card, like the 64 game had a gold cartridge

Glad to know I am not the only person interested in the cases that my games come in, but this design is odd, at least they didn't change it mid gen

ooooh crankin up the Japaneesy a bit, I approve.

Yeah, the European and Japanese versions of Zelda ST have the boxart shown, the US and maybe some other regions have what I like to call the 'angry Link' one.  In Europe, DS boxes are whitey/clear. In the US they are black, or at least the 2 US DS games I have are (SM64DS and TWEWY).  Thanks for reminding me about the difference between US and European DS boxes, below I've added some photos comparing 3DS to US DS.

The dimensions are the same for US DS and European 3DS boxes.  Regional differences could again exist with 3DS boxes, so this probably isn't the best comparison, but I won't get any US 3DS games as due to region locking I won't be able to play them.
