Forums - Gaming - Crysis 2 vs Killzone 3: One gamer's perspective

"This year, we are seeing Xbox360 exclusives running on new engines or to be more accurate, engines that created to take full advantage of Microsoft’s console. Halo: Reach looks so much better than Halo 3 and ODST, but the real star that showed what the Xbox360 is capable of is Remedy’s upcoming Psychological thriller, Alan Wake.

Alan Wake not just raising the bar for Xbox360 in term of visuals, it’s raising the bar for this whole generation. Technically and artistically, Alan Wake is shaping up to be the best looking game of this generation. From the real-time projected shadows produced by the essential flashlight, the total absence of aliasing, the breathtaking realistic lighting effects (the best I have ever seen), the epic scale of the environments, SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion), the atmospheric effects to the vegetation which interacts with characters and wind. Truly impressive stuff."

"The best thing Sony did this gen is they let their first party devs to create games with one thing in mind: Taking full advantage of the PS3 power. That’s why we have been seeing PS3 exclusives looking better than Xbox360 games. Things are about to change now, as we are seeing games such as Alan Wake equaling or surpassing PS3 exclusives in term of visuals. And the most impressive thing is: Alan Wake is running on a $199 console with limited storage capacity (DVD9). It will be interesting to see what does Sony have up their sleeve at the upcoming E3."

Wow this guy is really something else isn't he.

And this was after he played God of War 3 btw, lol.

Seems like...

Graphics: Killzone 3 > Crysis 2
Art Style: Crysis 2 > Killzone 3

Uncharted 2 > All IMO.

agreed

I like Crysis 2, it's undeniably the best looking game on 360 and up for debate as being the PCs best on hardcore settings but on PS3 I still feel Killzone 3 has a definate edge.

Crysis 2 didn't blow me away visually like Killzone 3 did just a month a go; Killzone 3 looks better then any other console game period and I can't see Uncharted 3 topping it; based on the latest Uncharted 3 videos it's not looking that much better then Uncharted 2 (not that that's a bad thing) which isn't as technically impressive as Killzone 2 let alone 3. I always felt God Of War 3 looked better then Uncharted 2 but perhaps that's just me.

Back on subject, I felt Crysis 2 had a few too many noticable jaggies to be really great after all the PS3 version is yet another port lacking any optimization other then coding. Games optimized for both 360 and PS3 always look best on PS3 (ref: Final Fantasy XIII).

Crysis 2 looks good but not THAT good; when talking about graphics gameplay is irrelevant hence why we don't need to take "into consideration" the size of the area each game is rendering. Graphics are standalone viusals.

Regardless of visuals if Crytek don't fix the server issues and melee issues I won't be buying it any time soon; I'll stick with Killzone 3 as I'm sure all of you are suprised to hear me say, *lol*.

All my personal opinion though, respect it but don't insult me for it.

Have only played the Crysis 2 Demo as not out here yet. But based on the PC one i think it looks better graphics wise then KZ3. I think he makes a good point about Killzone 3 being more a coridor shooter while Crysis 2 being open world. Because of that more things are going on. In a game like KZ3 the things they choose for you to see on the linear path are outstanding. They look amazing. But in Crysis 2 the graphics are great everywhere. The world is a lot bigger and wherever you decide to head off to every place looks great. So because in Crysis 2 the place is a lot bigger and you have more freedom to go where you want and do what you want those graphics impress me more. If Crytek chose to concentrate only on selected areas and made it linear no doubt it would of looked even better.

I was not a fan of KZ3 overall though. Great graphics don't make a great game. Crysis was an awesome game with some memorable gaming moments, i hope Crysis 2 has just as good story and gameplay as its graphics.

Well, some interesting points but overall I'd say it's too simplistic to really take much from and, at least in my admitedly pedantic view, he commits the cardinal sin of mixing a graphical discussion - which should be factual and based on resolution, AA, etc. - with art direction, which is of course completely subjective.

Take the AA.  I have no idea if Crytek did or didn't produce something better than MLAA, but I do know that can be conclusively tested with appropriate analysis.  Eyeballing it from a screen is to be honest a bit of a waste of time.

At this point, all I know is Crysis 2 looks very good in some videos although there seems to be a more noticable difference in SP vs MP graphics than I was expecting - but that might be most MP shots I've seen are from the Beta which I believe was an older build.

I'm not expecting it to be 'the best' graphically although I'll be very impressed if it is.  Unless Crytek have seriously spent a fortune on the tech - or really are amazingly gifted - I'd always expect a really well coded exclusive engine to slightly pip and extremely well coded multi-platform engine.  It's easier to do, and given equally talented developers the exclusive team should always be able to come out on top.

Either way, looks like there's another pretty shooter coming down the tracks.  Let's hope the gameplay matches the looks.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

So basically its what I thought...Both KZ3 and Crysis 2 look about the same, it all comes down to which one you prefer.

A PC Crysis 2 vs Killzone 3 comparison is completely void, because one of them is obviously on dynamic hardware (even though Killzone 3 must be mighty impressive to even be considered in the same vein as PC titles).

Yeah obviously can't compare it overall.

But my pc is actually pretty old now. Had it longer then my PS3. And when i bought my PS3 the price was pretty similar to what i paid to build the PC. So i was basing how the graphics looked on my pc which as mentioned is older then my PS3. So i imagine someone with a new kick ass PC will see a huge difference between Crysis 2 and Killzone 3's graphics. Which would not be that impressive imo.

But as i said graphics are all good but if the gameplay sucks and the story is awful then the graphics won't save it from being an average game. In my view that is what happened with KZ3. The game had great graphics but everything else was pretty average. I am not bothered one bit by which game has the best graphics, i care about what game is the most fun to play. Let's hope Crysis 2 plays better then KZ3!

is it true that crysis 2 only has 6v6 multiplayer or is it 12v12
