Don`t know if i should had written this somewhere else, but here are my impressions of 3DS:
Today i had the chance to - briefly - experiment 3DS! Winning! That`s right: Winning!
First of all, i got to say was apprehensive about the 3DS effect. Every 3d movie i tried made my eyes suffer for the whole movie. I ended up thinking 3D was not for my eyes... except for the 3DS!
When i got there, 3D was already on but on a low level, which ended up becoming a sweetspot for me.
1st question: Is it hard to find a sweetspot? No it isn`t. Your eyes will really tell you how far you can go. I tried going full 3D but it ended hurting my eyes a bit so almost instantly i knew to what point could i raise the bar and at that point it became really comfortable - it really did.
2nd question: Is it easy to lose the 3D effect? Ok, this is a tough one to respond to because i had quite a bit of reflection on the console and i can`t say exacty say if it the 3D viewing field is small or not. though, in a personal perspective i barely move the console while playing so it didn`t became an issue. Still i have the feeling that the 3D viewing filed isn`t that big.
3rd question: At what distance does the 3D effect feel natural? I played Kid Icarus - looks awesome with the 3D - while looking down and 3DS in my hands at 15-20cm or more and the 3D effect looks great. Even when i had to to take a 3D picture, while stretching my arms at front, 3D was still there and looked good. So i believe that those used to playing DS or PSP will still very much feel the 3D effect.
4th question: Does 3D look like 3D? Yes it does. But you WILL feel differences depending on the game you play. I played Kid Icarus, Nintendogs, RE: Mercenaries, Face Raiders and AR... i still can`t believe i missed Zelda... and 3D was really meaningfull in Kid Icarus, especially on the flying parts.
On thing i realised is, despite my brief moment with console, is that some genres will benefit more from 3D than others and that games have the 3D effect on a depth scale instead of just throwing it at your eyes (screen) will make for the most enjoyable 3D experience. That`s why a think Kid Icarus was my best experiment of all the games i played!
