..casually butts into other peoples conversations...

the ps3 has but up YoY every year so far.  it's still doing great this year and i 100% expect a price-cut that will cause this year's sales to be better than last.

the 360 had its best year ever by a good margin last year and is consistently up YoY this year.  I also expect a price-cut that will guarantee this years sales to be better than last.

nintendo obviously already peaked in 2008 and will continue to be down YoY this year.

...but overall this generation can't really be thought of as past its peak just yet to me.

PS3,Wii, & 360 all doing well.

DS & 3DS both doing very well. Pokemon did great and sold many DS Systems.

PSP...Its just dead in America and will never come back LOL! You would think that a $40 Price Cut would help a system even if its dying but after 2 weeks of the Price Cut...I guess price wasn't the reason PSP didn't sell in America...nobody wanted it?

Also, why is a lot of people on here saying that the 3DS is doing bad? I think that the 3DS is doing very well. You can compare its week 3 to other systems but you have to remember a simple fact...PSP, DS, PS3, and Wii were all released during November and December in Japan. I would think that the DS and PSP and Wii and PS3 would have better week 3's than the 3DS. I bet 3DS will have a better week 40-45 in Japan than the all of the other systems though LOL.(Holiday's)

Also, I think as more games come out 3DS will have very good "Legs" worldwide. Many strong games are already announced and with major 3rd Party support Plus major Nintendo support for the 1st time ever on one system should do very well.

My crystal ball is in the shop for repairs so I cannot see the future, but why do I have to justify myself?  Someone else already mentioned a potential PS3 pricedrop which sounded reasonable.   And you're not fooling anyone.  The PS3 is currently outselling all home consoles.  Deal with it.  Oh, I take that back.  You are dealing with it by raining on the PS3's parade.  Downplay, baby.  But don't you yourself personally think that the Xbox 360 should be outselling the PS3?

"cant think of anything" would have done.

where do I downplay?  I say the gen has peaked...its a fact.. so "deal with it".

cue another smart response... its your trademark "dude" or will it be "baby" this time?

 

So you know for a fact that PS3 sales for 2011 will be lower than 2010?  As long as one console continues to out do itself this late in a generation, that is amazing while the PS3 is so far outselling the home consoles.

The PS3 has truly done itself proud. It has taken on Kinnect and Slim and laughed.

The EMEAA has so much potential for future growth that sony needs to lock it down even tighter like Japan.

The wii beating the x360 was quite unexpected.

As for Japan next week I seriously doubt it's citizens care much for a games console right now when their country is on the brink.

I expect x360 back on top of home consoles.

Saying this generation has peaked is untrue. Then again it depends on how you look at it.

The way I look at it is through the overall sales of the consoles. Therefore I say it has not peaked.

This generation is unique in that sales are spread far more evenly between the three competitors, consoles are taking sales of each other.

Therefore combined sales of wii, x360 and PS3 are almost 190m and growing.

Last gen PS2 was way, way ahead and xbox and gamecube was no where to be seen. I am not sure of the overall sales (as PS2 is still relatively strong in developing countries) and by the time they "died" the approximate sales where less than 190m. (PS2 125m, GC 21m, xbox 24m)

Doing a YoY every week is misleading. What is required is a YoY done yearly.

Below are extremely rough figures and I see some yearly growth and expect it to continue.

Xbox 360 (worldwide)

2006: 10m
2007: 19m
2008: 30.5m
2009: 38m
2010: 49m

edit: Reworking the PS3 figures. I have screwed this up. What I wanted to do was produce was a chart showing the overall rise in combine sales of all home console during the last 4yrs...help. IE keeps crashing and copy and paste has gone mad.
