Forums - General - Ron Paul For President in 2008

Okay, people. Since this Ron Paul stuff seems to pop up about once a month, I thought I'd go back and see what I had to say on the subject last time, since I dislike doing the same research twice.

"Everyone get this straight: Ron Paul is sincere and dedicated to his ideals and if elected he will work as hard as he can to make those ideals into national policy. He isn't a slave to special interests and he won't be if he gets into office.

"HOWEVER

"His ideals are somewhere between misguided and lunatic. He has absolutely no respect for Thomas Jefferson's "wall of separation between church and state" (he thinks the Founding Fathers intended no such thing) and he thinks it would be great if the church had more earthly power than the state (a.k.a. theocracy). He says that the Constitution is riddled with references to God (there are zero).

"On the secular front, he is in favor of privatization and deregulation of pretty much EVERYTHING. Political theory aside, there are some areas where it is proven that the "invisible hand" does absolutely NOTHING to protect society from corporate depredations (the environment) and there are others where the private sector has proven completely incompetent (airlines).

"He also thinks that there is a cabal/conspiracy to build a gigantic superhighway from Canada to Mexico as part of a master scheme to unite the entire continent into one economic entity -- one currency, etc. This is, um, not true.

"Ron Paul has more honesty and integrity than any other Republican running for office. That doesn't mean you should vote for him, even if you're going to vote Republican."

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?start=100&id=10441 But the thread got off onto the topic of the FairTax soon after this post.

And who told you that, FOX news? It has already happened to Europe (European Union), and if all goes according to their plan, it will happen with America too. (Google North American Union) Ultimately what they are going for is a one world government, with one currency and without any borders.(Google Bilderberg group)  If you open your eyes you can easily see this is already in progress. Also, with the dollar fading away, the papermoney will dissapear and everything will be paid with "eletric cash" using an ID chip implanted under your skin. Don't take my word for it, read some books, talk to certain people and search the web (stay way from corporate media), and THEN you can decide if you wan't to believe it or not. Throwing this off as BS just because the norm says it's crazy is ignorant.

What a sad day that we live  in, that following the Constitution has become "insane."  That being said, judging by what some of you say, I think a lot of you who claim Ron Paul is insane, would actually like him, if you looked into what he actually stands for and his reasoning behind it.  It is hard  to argue that positions supported by history and  facts are  insane, unless you  ignore history and facts.   All I can say is, if you don't vote for Ron Paul,  I  hope you don't ever again argue that government or politicians are corrupt  liars again, because it is only because you keep voting them in.   Finally a man who is not just saying what you want to hear, but saying the truth and he is labeled insane.  I guess George Orwell was  right, "during times of universal deceit, telling the  truth becomes a revolutionary act."

Following the constitution isn't insane but trying to abolish the federal reserve and taxes is.

He may be an honest man - which is a rare thing indeed - but his policies are simply too farfetched for my liking.

I wouldn't call Ron Paul a loon. I think such a caricature is unfair, but it does not take very long to see why he has that reputation in some circles. His followers are a bit on the, shall we say, unconventional side.

They include anarchists and conspiracy theorists of all kinds. I'm sorry, but once you start talking about Bilderberg, or the controlled demolition of Tower7, or the detonation of levees, or chemtrails, or the new world order, you've lost me. Once you start sounding like a guest of Art Bell or Coast-to-Coast AM radio, I phase out. I'm sure it's more my hang up than yours, but that's where I'm at.

I doubt Ron Paul puts much weight in such theories, and I'm sure he's as surprised as anyone else that he attracts people who do. His laissez faire libertarianism is refreshing, especially since Republicans, who were carrying that torch through most of the 90's threw it out in favor of a Democrat-lite version of big government.

He is a vocal champion of the Constitution who hates abortion, the Treasury and the floating currency. His foreign policy? Well, in a way, there is none.

If there is one thing he does have in common with his followers, it's his tendency to see everything in apocalyptic terms. He is not known for using measured rhetoric.

There is alot to like about the guy. He's probably the most trustworthy person seeking the office. But as refreshing as some of his messages are, he does carry a lot of dead weight.

Republicans haven't been true fiscal conservatives since before I've been alive. Whatever complaints you have about "tax and spend", surely you agree it's better than "don't tax but spend anyway"? That shit just comes back to bite you in the ass -- look at the percentage of federal spending devoted purely to paying off interest on the debt.

I agree. The problem is that we can trust him to (try his best to) run the country off a cliff.

I'm all for Ron Paul.

Of course, I've been a staunch Jeffersonian and Libertarian for years now.

You know, we've had our differences in the past, but this I agree with you 100% on.

There are a lot of great ideas that are absolutely fantastic on paper. Libertarianism (is that a new word? ) Is one of them, communism is another. So was Reagan's "trickle-down effect" that never really worked either. The problem is, you can never expect people to act exactly how you tell them to.

Currently playing: Civ 6

Reagan's "Tricke-down effect" was just as asinine and offensive on paper as it was in real life.

Anyways. Here's a quick question for the Ron Paul fans out there. If he were out of the running, who would your second choice be?

I think we can all agree that there really aren't any other candidates out there quite like him.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Tbh, there are no other current candidates that I'd support.
