Forums - Gaming - PS3 and 360 software sales - A second look

It was always going to end in tears when you decided to classify an exclusive on consoles but can be sold on the PC. Despite the normal complaints about what is and is not an exclusive it demonstrates that these console/PC exclusives can be huge sellers and so deserve the recognition. The issue about these console exclusives I suspect is that the majority if not all of them favour the 360.

Winner of the 2010 VGC Holiday sales prediction thread with an Average 1.6% accuracy rating. I am indeed awesome.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

The only way to totally satisfy people is if the thread were called "A sales comparison of games that are on the PS3 that are not on the 360 vs. Games that are on the 360 but not on the PS3--not including PSN games or Xbox Live Arcade games.  Pack-ins are allowed because Wii Sports was packed in and it's recognized as the best selling game of all time.  Geez!"

Or as I like to call it, the "ASCOGTAONPS3TANOT360 VS. GTAOT360NNOTPS3--NIPGOXG. PAABWSWPIAIRATBSGOATG!" Thread.  It just rolls off of the tongue!

Could not agree more.  Whenver I see them posting this I can't help but wonder if Final Fantasy XIV does in fact finally release on PS3 if they'll be fine saying its not an exclusive.  I have a funny feeling many would be arguing the other way and saying it is indeed an exclusive.  Just an observation though.

LBP is for the psp too :P

I got LBP for the PSP and LBP1 and LBP2 for the PS3.  Not even close to the same game.

Doesn't matter since it's no good anyway.

OP updated: Call of Duty 2 added to the 360.

Totals:

PlayStation 3: 68.23m

Xbox 360: 98.79m

So, to make it simple, out of their top 30 exclusive/console exclusive titles, the 360 has sold 30 million more in software over the last 5(plus) years.

Tell you guys what I'm gonna do (I enjoy this stuff a little too much ), I'm going to make a thread for all of the consoles (just home consoles - PS3/360/Wii) of this gen and the PS2. Top 30 in software for console exclusive/exclusive titles.

Keep watch.

already did no problem bud!

Seeing that PS3 and 360 side by side in the OP made me realize that the PS3 lost it's gloss when it was re-designed and the 360 suddenly became glossy when it got re-designed.  I wish the 360 stayed "unglossy".  It's like my new 360 came out of the box dusty!

Impressive sales by the X360 even with Forza 3 and Kinect Adventures missing from the list.  One thing that surprises me is how much less Resistance 2 did than the first game considering it was rated just as high as Resistance 1 (on average from metacritic.)

many many bundles. I'm quite sure Resistance 2 sold about the same as Fall of Man.

no resistance 1 was a lunch title, one of the very few actually good ones, stop trying to something out of nothing

sry to burst your bubble but that is a fact.

Resistance Fall of Man, Motorstorm and to a lesser extent Uncharted Drake's Fortune were heavily bundled.

Back in mid 2007 it was almost impossible to buy a PS3 without Resistance and Motorstorm in Europe.

http://www.pcwelt.de/news/PS3-Starter-Pack-Dickes-Playstation-3-Bundle-fuer-Europa-131783.html

I did some calculations I think back in 2009 or so. At least 1.5m units of each Motorstorm and Resistance were bundled. For Uncharted I think it was "only" around 500k.

And for the fairness, Forza 2 got bundled 2m times and Forza 3 1.5m times.

a link about a random bundle in German now means MASSIVE bundling???

and "your calculations", hahahahahahahaha ok let me try

by my calculations 60% of the forza franchise sales are bundles.

now to insert random pointless link

http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/games/forza-2-and-marvel-alliance-bundle/67438

hmmmm that was easy..... oh I forgot *This is SO FACT non debatable* I haz gotz a link

my link confirms that instead of a pricecut like in the US, SCEE is shipping these bundles to ALL SCEE-territories.

You haven't provided ANYTHING that could debunk this (which is impossible anyway since it's the truth). Now instead of telling me that Forza was bundled for half a year (so called "holiday bundle"), which I already said in my last post, better stop trolling and come up with something that really matters.

btw. my calculations were based on VGC numbers and the dates when the bundles were actively sold, so they aren't imaginary in any way and just as reliable as everything else on this site.

Here said bundle (2007):

I thought I made it up O_O

oh that's what I consider MISSIVE bundleing....

1. where did I say the majority ?

I said 1.5m which less than half of the actual sales, so it's not the majority.

2. Why do you put up links for the Forza bundles ? I confirm it now for the 3rd time already. Yes they have been bundled quite a lot.

In case of Forza 2:

You basically provided 2 types of links:

- launch bundle

Every major game has one, but they are very limited. 50k-100k MAX (CoD MW2 had I think 80k and Killzone 3 around 50k)

- software bundle

Very few of them because they were part of the holiday bundle which is going to be my next topic. It's not bundled with hardware so this should be seen as normal sales anyway.

But you missed the most important one:

- holiday bundle

Forza 2 & Marvel Ultimate Alliance and to a lesser extent Forza 2 & Viva Pinata. They make by far the majority of these bundles. 2m sold between them. You can easily see them on Forza 2's sales page and on Ultimate Alliance's sales page.
Why do you think Ultimate Alliance got over 2m sales on 360 ? Because of that one bundle.

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=15781

October 2007 - January 2008 (officially though there were remaining ones that were sold afterwards)

In case of Forza 3 and I'm keeping this short. Look at the sales page and you will clearly see when the bundling started and when it ended. Count the numbers together and you'll get around 1.5m, thus leaving the "real" sales of Forza 3 by more than 3m.

3. Your understanding of MASSIVE seems to be off. Motorstorm and Resistance bundles WERE massive. I think you still don't understand so I'll say it again.

In July 2007 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe released the MS/RFOM 60GB bundle in Europe. It was officially the ONLY sku in WHOLE Europe for MONTHS. You COULDN'T buy a PS3 without these games at that time.

The 2008 Pick N Mix bundle wasn't as big, but still an official one. You said it wasn't a Resistance bundle, but you could choose 2 of the following games:

MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, Genji: Days of the Blade, Formula One Championship Edition, Ridge Racer 7, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Folklore, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Warhawk, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, SingStar

Of course not everyone of them were sold with Motorstorm AND Resistance, but looking at the other games it's likely that at least one of them did.

Also in 2008 here is another one: Motorstorm 80GB bundle for the US

http://everyjoe.com/technology/no-more-ps3-80gb-motorstorm-bundle/

And last but not least the 80GB Motorstorm & Resistance bundle in 2009.

Again the last 3 ones were optional, but there weren't really any other bundles available at that time, so why not get one of these instead of a PS3 without any games ? First one was mandatory.
That is massive bundling. Just as Forza 2 or Forza 3.
