I thought I made it up O_O oh that's what I consider MISSIVE bundleing.... anyway, Resistance 1 and Motorsorm can attribute the majority of thier sales dude to being LUNCH titles for the ps3. |
1. where did I say the majority ?
I said 1.5m which less than half of the actual sales, so it's not the majority.
2. Why do you put up links for the Forza bundles ? I confirm it now for the 3rd time already. Yes they have been bundled quite a lot.
In case of Forza 2:
You basically provided 2 types of links:
- launch bundle
Every major game has one, but they are very limited. 50k-100k MAX (CoD MW2 had I think 80k and Killzone 3 around 50k)
- software bundle
Very few of them because they were part of the holiday bundle which is going to be my next topic. It's not bundled with hardware so this should be seen as normal sales anyway.
But you missed the most important one:
- holiday bundle
Forza 2 & Marvel Ultimate Alliance and to a lesser extent Forza 2 & Viva Pinata. They make by far the majority of these bundles. 2m sold between them. You can easily see them on Forza 2's sales page and on Ultimate Alliance's sales page.
Why do you think Ultimate Alliance got over 2m sales on 360 ? Because of that one bundle.

October 2007 - January 2008 (officially though there were remaining ones that were sold afterwards)
In case of Forza 3 and I'm keeping this short. Look at the sales page and you will clearly see when the bundling started and when it ended. Count the numbers together and you'll get around 1.5m, thus leaving the "real" sales of Forza 3 by more than 3m.
3. Your understanding of MASSIVE seems to be off. Motorstorm and Resistance bundles WERE massive. I think you still don't understand so I'll say it again.
In July 2007 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe released the MS/RFOM 60GB bundle in Europe. It was officially the ONLY sku in WHOLE Europe for MONTHS. You COULDN'T buy a PS3 without these games at that time.
The 2008 Pick N Mix bundle wasn't as big, but still an official one. You said it wasn't a Resistance bundle, but you could choose 2 of the following games:
MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, Genji: Days of the Blade, Formula One Championship Edition, Ridge Racer 7, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Folklore, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Warhawk, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, SingStar
Of course not everyone of them were sold with Motorstorm AND Resistance, but looking at the other games it's likely that at least one of them did.
Also in 2008 here is another one: Motorstorm 80GB bundle for the US
http://everyjoe.com/technology/no-more-ps3-80gb-motorstorm-bundle/
And last but not least the 80GB Motorstorm & Resistance bundle in 2009.
Again the last 3 ones were optional, but there weren't really any other bundles available at that time, so why not get one of these instead of a PS3 without any games ? First one was mandatory.
That is massive bundling. Just as Forza 2 or Forza 3.
